Synopsis

As the Titans deal with Madame Rouge, Beast Boy is excited to meet his female counterpart Beast Girl.

Why It's Not The Beast Girl

  1. Abysmal Marketing: Months before the episode aired, Cartoon Network hyped it to oblivion. They released a teaser that just showed a title card. They made the episode out to be an “earth-shattering event” and marketed the episode as “Opposite Titans” and encouraged the viewers to submit posts on their website about what they think the supposed Opposite Titans looked like. Two months before the episode aired, a proper trailer was released, however, trailer showed spoilerly footage of the so-called Opposite Titans poorly silhouetted so we could see WHAT THEY LOOKED. A viewer even used photoshop to remove the silhouettes TWO WEEKS before the episode aired and posted it online. When the episode finally aired, you could clearly see that the so-called opposite titans looked like the photoshop, just the Teen Titans genderbent. It’s very disappointing and it proves Cartoon Network has an awful marketing department. If they desperately wanted to surprise us, they should do a BETTER JOB AT HIDING SPOILERS.
  2. The beginning is pointless and unfunny and goes on for too long. It’s just Beast Boy screaming at his reflection in the bathroom mirror because he thinks it’s another person (is he really that stupid now?) and the other Titans calling him stupid.
  3. Starfire IMMEDIATELY follows this with a very unfunny joke, it’s just Starfire calling him a “weirdo” but replacing “o” with all the vowels.
  4. Plot hole: How did Beast Girl dimension hop if she jumped through her bathroom mirror?
  5. Madame Rogue (the supervillain the Titans are chasing throughout the episode) is a very stupid villain, all she is is a French stereotype with shapeshifting powers and her goal is…. To get rid of pizza, we’re not kidding!
  6. Speaking of Madame Rogue being French, the writers also prove they don’t know much about French culture because towards the end of the episode, she traps the Teen Titans in Russian nesting dolls, which are Russian NOT FRENCH.
  7. When Beast Boy meets Beast Girl, he tells her his origin story, but it will eventually be debunked in the episode A Doom Patrol Thanksgiving. Which gives Beast Boy A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ORIGIN STORY (read the show’s page to find out what it is), it’s bad storytelling and lack of continuity does not excuse it because in all episodic shows, all the things that remain consistent are the characters. It’s the same as stating that SpongeBob does not know who his parents are on SpongeBob SquarePants.
    • Beast Boy’s story goes like this: While at a jungle, as an infant, Beast Boy gets bitten by a green monkey. He becomes gravely ill, thankfully, his parents are scientists and made him an antidote. However, the antidote has side effects, he turned green and can now shapeshift into animals.
  8. There is also a running gag where Beast Boy and Beast Girl think everything is Madame Rogue and it is not funny, just very jarring.
  9. Despite Cartoon Network advertising this episode as Opposite Titans, only 90% of the episode shows Beast Girl and WE ONLY SEE THE GENDERBENT TEEN TITANS AT THE VERY END.
  10. Continuity Error: Beast Girl was never mentioned or appeared in the original series so seeing her in this reboot now is just weird she just suddenly appears, not to mention she's just another one time character that stops appearing after this episode.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The scene where Beast Boy and Beast Girl hang out is very nice.
  2. Although they don’t get much attention, the opposite Titans are very interesting.
