To Love a Patty, except it's a poorly thought of Anti-Drug episode that never does that much justice.

Cuddle E. Hugs is the first segment of the 225th episode of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Plot

When SpongeBob finds a rotten Krabby Patty and eats it, he starts hallucinating and a hamster named Cuddle E. Hugs appears; the people of Bikini Bottom are told to eat rotten Krabby Patties so they can see him.

Un-Hugging Qualities

1. The main problem with this episode is that the gross-out joke the Ben Gruber (writer) used for that episode with all of the characters (except) eating a rotten patty. It also contains allegories to drugs such as LSD in the form of these rotten patties and Krabby Patties in general, which just goes a little into adult comedy territory in a kids' show.
2. SpongeBob clearly acts like an idiot in this episode. He thinks it's a good idea to eat rotten Krabby Patties, yet he would know by now that eating rotten food is nothing to be considered "good to eat".
   • He even goes as far as to sell them to everyone so everybody else can see his imaginary friend.
3. It has a couple of plot holes made just to run the whole episode, such as SpongeBob being somehow able to interact with Cuddle E. Hugs despite being a hallucination.
4. Speaking of the obvious, this episode retcons it's continuity to "Born Again Krabs". At the beginning of that episode, SpongeBob finds a rotten Krabby Patty and throws it away. Mr. Krabs, much to his arrogance, call him out for it and puts it in a cage and eats it. Then, he goes to the hospital looking severely sick. It shows us that rotten Krabby Patties are meant to be thrown away because spoiled or rotten food is not good for anybody. Here, the rotten Krabby Patties are actual drugs. It's like the writers are clearly going for an Anti-Drug esque episode telling kids not to use drugs at all.
   • Although the idea of an Anti-Drug SpongeBob episode is the least of the episodes problems, it doesn't work since rotten food cannot be used as "drugs". These things can get people sick or killed. (Maybe if the food was this rotten enough to kill you severely).
5. Cuddle E. Hugs' theme music, while great, sounds rather bland, comparing to other music that was done by Jean-Jacques Perrey (no offense to Perrey).
6. The infamous scene where Cuddle E. Hugs eats everyone. Thankfully, it was all an imagination and everyone was fine. Making a scene this extremely frightening towards young audiences is one thing, but throwing that in to be dark and edgy for some weird reason is not funny.
7. It has similar elements to the Season 5 episode, "To Love a Patty", as both involve SpongeBob liking something unrealistically.
   • On this topic, the same Cuddle E. Hugs looks like a Totoro rip off.

Hugging Qualities

1. Despite being similar to "To Love a Patty", it ends up slightly better than the latter since it's more reasonable.
2. Tom Yasumi take a good over the top take on SpongeBob when he take a first bite on the rotten patty
3. Jeff Garlin does a decent job as Cuddle E. Hugs.
4. Squidward's line, "Um… back to bed."
5. As mentioned above, Cuddle E. Hugs theme song is great despite being rather bland and boring.
6. Good moral: We're not doing the drug, because if you eat or sniffing the drugs, it will become hallucinations.
7. At least Cuddle E. Hugs is got comeuppance from SpongeBob.
