Faceball 2000 is a first-person shooter game developed by Xanth Software, Inc. and published by Bullet-Proof Software in 1991 for the Game Boy. It was later released on Japan in 1992. It was later ported to various systems, including the Virtual Boy, which wasn't even released due of the system's failure.

It is a spiritual sequel of Xanth Software's earlier game MIDI Maze, which was released in 1987 for the Atari ST computer.
This page will cover the SNES version, which was only released in North America and it's considered mediocre in comparision of the other versions.
Why It Sucks
- The framerate is very low and unstable, probably caused by the continuous use of the Mode 7.
- Your character moves and turns extremely slow, to make the things worse, you can't adjust the sensitivity.
- Your main weapon has a really low rate of fire, this also affects the speed of your projectiles.
- Some enemies can drop power-ups that can upgrade your stats (armor, speed, shots), but these are rare to find and they just improve a bit of one of your stats.
- After the fifth level, the game difficulty will get incredibly cheap, more enemies will spawn and they become much faster and stronger than you. Because of the terrible controls, it's almost impossible to progress in the game.
- You can't stride to the sides, if the enemy is shooting in front of you at you, go back and pray for not getting damaged, as the turn speed is inconveniently slow.
- The options menu is very poor, you can only change your character model, your name and the volume.
- Apparently you can play the game while it's "paused", but the only things you can see is your current position, the location of the exit and the direction you're facing, as the positions of your enemies won't show up on the map, this function is entirely pointless.
- Shooting will block your sight for a while and it can disorient you, specially when you are fighting against a lot of enemies.
- The arena mode is extremely unbalanced, even if you play against only one of the weakest enemies available.
- Just like the original game, the HUD occupies around three quarters of the screen. While it has some useful things like your life meter, the game stats and the stats bar, the HUD is really clunky and there are some indicators that don't seem to do anything.
- This said, the two player mode HUD is more appealing, but it still has the useless indicators.
- Enemies will mock you when you die by saying "Have a nice day", which can be annoying for most of the people.
- Most of the soundtrack composed by acclaimed musican George "The Fat Man" Sanger is very lackluster and boring, also, it will get repetitive after a short time. In additional, it sounds like an average music downloaded in a MIDI file.
- Repetitive backgrounds.
- Generic and uninspired level design.
- No continues, if you lose all of your lifes, you will get back to the beginning.
- Almost no replay value.
- Terribly designed multiplayer mode.
Redeeming Qualities
- The graphics are really good, even for a early SNES game.
- The title screen music at least sounds passable.
- Your health will regenerate automatically after a time, which is impressive for an early FPS game.
