Parasite is the 17th episode of the 1st season of Teen Titans Go!.

Synopsis

Starfire acquires a space parasite, which she insists on treating like a pet. The parasite succeeds in winning over all of the Titans but Robin, who alone sees the parasite as the threat that it is.

Why It's a Parasite

  1. The biggest problem with this episode is that IT’S COMPLETELY DISGUSTING. Starfire spends the majority of the episode infected by a space parasite and her infection even looks realistic as that’s what a parasite in the body looks like. (It’s presented as a benign tumor on her left ribs)
  2. This episode also sends the wrong message because it treats the parasite as a positive thing when in reality, parasites are anything but. They are known to reproduce inside the being they infected, eat all the food that was ingested by the infected, and can cause serious illnesses, and in some cases, even death. So, the way the parasite is treated is quite disturbing.
  3. The evolution bit at the beginning is unnecessary and feels like filler as it adds nothing to the episode.
  4. The scene where Starfire encourages the Titans to celebrate her planet’s holiday, Feast Day is fine until one of the alien creatures they had to eat is a reference to a long-dead meme, mouth eyes as the creature is literally a worm with 3 mouths and no eyes, as two of their mouths is placed where the eyes would be. This makes the episode feel dated!
    • Not to mention, Feast Day is a stupid name for a holiday, and being from Tamaran doesn’t excuse it.
  5. The plot devolves from here as Starfire becomes insane and starts to bond with the parasite that infected them, she named him Parry claims to understand him (which is proven that is true later on), and the other Titans (except Robin) bond with him.
  6. When Robin researches parasites, it’s revealed he has rather suggestive photos of himself stored in his computer. The pictures are not appropriate for the target audience and some of them even make you question how they even got past the censors to begin with.
  7. The scene where Robin purposefully infects himself with parasites is disgusting.
  8. The brain cape thing makes no sense.
  9. Bad Ending: It turns out that Robin was right, and Parry was just a giant egg inside of Starfire that hatched into a spider-like alien monster. Robin wastes time not defeating the monster and instead brags to the other Titans that he was right, and the monster kills them all just by squishing them.
  10. Overall, the episode is very disgusting and disturbing.

The Only Redeeming Quality

  1. Robin is the only likable character in this episode as he tries to deal with the parasite.
