The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius: Attack of the Twonkies is a 2004 video game published by THQ. The game is based on the American animated series The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, specifically the episode "Attack of the Twonkies". The game was developed by THQ Studio Australia for the GameCube and PlayStation 2. A Game Boy Advance version was developed by Tantalus.
Plot
In the game, the player controls Jimmy in a quest to save Earth from the alien "Twonkies" using gadgets and inventions. Although made after the Jimmy Neutron episode, "Attack of the Twonkies!", it was designed with the same mechanics as the film, including the rocket and the theme park "Retroland".
Qualities That Can Stop Twonkies
- The game's plot is decent as well as the idea of making a game based on the episode "Attack of the Twonkies". In fact the plot is an alternate version of the mentioned episode, that makes it interesting especially with his ending.
- Unlike Jet Fusion, several characters from the series and the movie are present in this game and also play a good role, including Carl, who wasn't in the previous game and even lesser-known characters like Nissa and the members of Graystar.
- Unlike the previous game, Butch is now considered a real character rather than a generic enemy, and also has his original voice given by Rob Paulsen.
- Just like the previous game, the gameplay is still good.
- The level designs are good, very different from the previous game.
- It is considered by many to be Jimmy Neutron's best game.
- Great gameplay, it's a semi open world, you're travel across the city to stop twonkies. To stop the Twonkies, you need suck it up the Twonkies. If the Twonkies become a monsters, you use your weapon to shinking it and back to normal. Some Twonkies need to find a weaker spot to bring back to normal.
- There's so many collectibles giving this game replay value.
- The crafting system is now more simplified, each item can create a weapon to stop Twonkies. This also applies to bosses too.
- Good music.
- Although the graphics are pretty mediocre for the time, the animations are at least good, especially compared to the previous game. It also runs twice the framerate then that game.
- The fact that the game ignored Cindy's new design, although it's a bad quality, might be considered a good choice for some people, considering that her design in the show is a little weird compared to the original. The same applies to Nick.
- The subtitles have funny looking character heads talking over them, making it feel like Banjo-Kazooie but with actual voice acting.
- Amazing boss battles, each bosses are challenging and has a different strategy, for example:
- The playground ones, you need to jump the seesaw and attack him immediately before they moving.
- The third boss is very challenging and need patience to defeating him, you need to use a trap weapon to attack the bosses.
Qualities That Can't Stop Twonkies
- Unfortunately, the graphics are pretty mediocre compared to Jimmy Neutron: Jet Fusion, with most of the characters having solid textures with no details, not to mention that this game released a year after Jet Fusion. Also some characters look a little different or are just plain awful, like Nick having white instead of tanned skin, Sheen looking unformatted, Nissa having brown hair and Butch HAVING NO EARS.
- Like the previous game, they decided to keep Cindy's movie design, although there's nothing wrong with the movie design, it's still a bad quality considering the game is based on the series. The same thing applies to Carl, who is wearing the suspenders he wore in the movie, and Nick, who is wearing his first season clothes instead of his leather jacket.
- Like the previous game, the game has backtracking.
- Although several characters from the series have appeared, some are still absent, such as Bolbi and Brittany.
- The bosses are complicated to beat for a kids game. Especially the third boss.
