The Cent of Money is the twenty-sixth episode of the seventh season of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Plot

SpongeBob is walking his pet snail, Gary, and coins start sticking to Gary's shell. When Mr. Krabs learns this, he uses Gary to steal coins from others all around town. In the end, it is revealed that Gary ate SpongeBob's very powerful Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy fridge magnet.

Qualities That Are a Cent of Scum

  1. The episode shares similarities to "Jellyfish Hunter" from Season 2, where both narratives feature Mr. Krabs exploiting another main character for profit. However, it lacks the appeal of the earlier episode, rendering Mr. Krabs even more detestable and morally corrupt.
  2. In this episode, Mr. Krabs is portrayed at his most extreme, with his greed reaching absurd levels as he manipulates Gary into taking money from others. His treatment of Gary is depicted as cruel and malicious, akin to animal abuse, while SpongeBob is deceived into believing that Gary is alright, despite the opposite being true.
  3. In the first half of the episode, SpongeBob displays naivety, unquestioningly believing Mr. Krabs' misleading assertions about exploiting Gary and ignoring the obvious evidence of Gary's suffering. However, as the episode unfolds, SpongeBob recognizes the reality and bravely challenges Mr. Krabs.
  4. The security worker at the arcade is also a moron, as he believes Mr. Krabs to be a pregnant woman. although this "female" has a male-like voice. Not to mention that he uses the word "preggers", which people found disturbing.
  5. When SpongeBob confronts Mr. Krabs at the arcade, Mr. Krabs becomes angry and defensive, showcasing the decline of his character.

Good Qualities

  1. In this episode, SpongeBob is generally portrayed as likable and true to his original character, except for the first half where he appears unaware of Mr. Krab's mistreatment of Gary.
    • Watching him stand for Gary was great. If only he did this as well in "A Pal for Gary".
    • Gary was also likable as we can feel sorry for him after what Mr. Krabs did to the poor snail.
  2. Compared to "One Coarse Meal", seeing Mr. Krabs get what he deserved and being told off by SpongeBob for his actions was very satisfying.
    • On that note, it had a good ending where he lost several tons of cents after his recovery bill. It was very funny
    • He also at least fed Gary, as we all know, he could've been hungry.
  3. SpongeBob painting the Krusty Krab was pretty decent.
  4. The "Huh, what?" scene was funny.
  5. Good title card music.

Trivia

  • This episode premiered during "SpongeBob and the Clash of Triton".
