Stumble Guys is a platforming battle royale game developed by Scopely.

Qualities That Stumbled

  1. To get the elephant out of the room: it is a complete rip-off of Fall Guys, a far better game, from the basics, to the customization, they even outright copy things that arrived in Fall Guys first, such as the level editor. Even the names are similar!
    • The game was released only one month and 20 days after Fall Guys release, proving it was rushed.
    • They even copied the font and part of the menu used in Brawl Stars for their game.
  2. Pay-to-win: It is clear the developers wanted to make the money Fall Guys was supposed to get, so the game is full of microtransactions. Not only was both Brawl Stars and Fall Guys currency system copied (Coins are Kudos and gems are Showbucks), but the fact that most paid emotes make you win the game easily, for example the punching emote, makes you wonder what the developers were thinking.
    • Back then, Stumble Guys on Steam costed money!
  3. Even though Scopely seemingly has a high budget, as seen in their other games such as Looney Tunes and Monopoly Go, here, they weren't even trying!
    • Scopely's other games have original compositions, Stumble Guys uses royalty-free music which is just lazy. There's only 2 tracks in the game, they don't have the same energy as Fall Guys' music. The menu music sounds too bland and slow-paced and the in-game music felt too much like music used in a YouTube Kids video.
  4. The game also relies too much on spinning wheels and lootboxes just to get things as meaningless as a skin. In fact, they supposedly promoted gambling to children through these features!
    • Speaking of skins, there's way too many of them, especially legendary and special rarities. This is a prime example of quantity over quality.
  5. The game attempts to keep being revelant to little kids by having a bunch of crossovers such as the infamous Mr. Beast event.
    • After Fall Guys had a SpongeBob event, Stumble Guys ends up (you guessed it) copying their idea!
  6. The game has, unsurprisingly, ads, which Fall Guys does not have.
  7. It's too easy, while Fall Guys has a good balance of difficult and simple.
  8. It tries to do everything in order to keep overshadowing Fall Guys by releasing on multiple platforms Fall Guys was also on, such as Xbox and PS4. Even a Switch port was also planned! What's the point of releasing a low-budget mobile game on mainstream platforms, let alone one that is a complete rip-off?
  9. It's redundancy has been increased following the recent announcement of Fall Guys on Android and iOS.
    • When Fall Guys Mobile came out and people are frowning away from Stumble Guys, Scopely attempts to get their playerbase back in many ways such as:
      • Giving away a "free gift"
      • Releasing the game on Nintendo Switch (FG was here first!)
      • Adding a "Stumble and Seek" game mode which copies the Hide and Seek games from Roblox.
  10. Overall, this game is essentially a prime example of the Oreo and Hydrox situation in which a copy ends up overshadowing the original, except that in the case of Stumble Guys and Fall Guys, the copy is actually really bad and doesn't deserve to be more popular than Stumble Guys.

Good Qualities

  1. At least it's available on phones from the start.
    • However, Fall Guys came out on mobile phones, so this game ended up being redundant due to the real deal now being playable on the go.
  2. The graphics is surprisingly good for mobile devices.
  3. Like Fall Guys, this game can be pretty fun, even the game is a ripoff.
  4. The controls of this game is very tight and not slippery for mobile devices, aside from the jumping controls.
  5. The PC and Console version doesn't have in-game ads.

Reception

Despite being obviously a rip-off, the game is somehow praised by many around the world, especially in France, where it went as far as getting an official sticker book published in stores. The popularity was so intense that Fall Guys, the original game, is becoming less and less popular with time according to Google Trends. (compare Fall Guys and Stumble Guys)

It has a 4.3/5 rating on Google Play and a Very Positive global reception on Steam, though the Steam release might be review-bombed because most reviews are memey.

When Fall Guys released on mobile, Stumble Guys ends up being frowned upon by many after realizing how it's only quality, "being available on mobile" doesn't count anymore, as evidenced by replies to the official Stumble Guys Twitter's posts.

Trivia

  • Surprisingly, Scopely didn't get a lawsuit from Mediatonic or Epic Games for copying their game yet.
