Sandboxes lead to errors

When I tried to access my Sandbox, the page went into a MediaWiki error and I cannot access it. -Blastoise

Blastoise, I'm well aware that this happens. It happens because of the Social Profile extension. I'm not entirely sure why It happens at this moment, but I did raise it with CJ to disable the extension until I could see what the issue with. Racist vandal

Howdy Szczypak64, thanks for your message. Unfortunately, it is expressly prohibited under the Terms of Service to use the platform under the age of 13. Please see the Terms of Service for more information. Under GDPR it becomes very complicated when users are under the age of 13 and data is being collected about them. I will unlock the account in June (when the user is 13) and they can happily contribute to the platform.

Not sure what is up with the abuse filter but.

It doesn't even state what occurred why the user got banned, I even checked the affected user's contribs and it shows nothing offending. -Blastoise

Howdy, @Blastoise. I've double checked the most recent edits against the ABF and they do indeed match the offending words in the filter. The abuse filter is set up explicitly on this wiki to prevent the same mistakes that occured on the old Qualitipedia sites, where arguments spiraled into offensive word calling and articles were written, on some occassions, with language that nobody should be subject to read. I have adjusted the abuse filter in this particular instance to warn the user and disallow the edit if the edit matches a particular offensive word in the filter. Users are then given the chance to view their edit and review the wording used, or abandon the edit — this also applies to imports, and it is the job of the one importing the revision to thoroughly check the language used in the article; nonetheless, I don't anticipate this to be an issue moving forward given that the old Qualitipedia wikis were closed.

The abuse filter was specifically put in place because Google regularly highlights objectional content that it does not deem suitable, and this can have a negative impact on SEO and other things, as a result, this content needs to be stopped before it is ever added to the wiki. The issue is that Qualitipedia's content generally seems to criticise media more than it praises them, and goes a little too far sometimes, including using offensive words wherein sentences could've been written differently or more constructively to put across the point; historically, this is because QP's audience was younger users who struggled to articulate themselves properly without resorting to offensive language. I had hoped that this time around, it would be different, but persistant hits on the abuse filter seem to prove me wrong.

It isn't difficult to thoroughly check an article or edit before publishing to ensure that it is articulated well and does not cause any offense when published. Nonetheless, I will keep my eye on the filter and adjust it accordingly if a false-hit is detected and prevented; but users should not be hitting the filter if they articulate their edits appropriately. -- Original Authority (talk) 01:07, January 24, 2023 (UTC)

I feel like the bans should have been shortened to at least 30 minutes or to a hour, indefinite bans just for simple swears (if it is in a quote) is harsh. -Blastoise

Y'know, come to think of it, I do have a question. Two actually. I know that you set up the abuse filter as a way to avoid trolls and vandals from using bad language and inappropriate terms on pages and in conversations. I can definitely understand that. However, would there also be some flaws in this. For example, not all users who use the terms are bad/immature users by default. Some may actually be constructive users who just happened to use a word once or twice (even a mild one) when talking about reasoning. They'd have to deal with setbacks too. Also, what exactly should a user do if they're trying to create a page for a movie/show/game/book that just happens to have an inappropriate word within an title? Even if it's a good/essential work. (It happened to me when I was trying to create a page on a certain movie. Even when I censored the word, it wouldn't let me create the page. Creating a Pages

• I have an idea: maybe you should censor some of the inappropriate words, using asterisks in place of some of the letters. It's working for me.

Yeah, about TikTok, I'm thinking to delete it. YouTube makes sense since that website focuses on various themes such as gaming, TV shows, music, everything you can think of. Broken file links

For some bizarre reason, a bunch of images that we were using on various pages (mostly those that weren't pre-uploaded) suddenly turned into redlinks, and the images aren't visible anymore. Is there a particular reason for this?

@ChessGuy66, Original Authority is the manager of the telepedia domain. He is not (necessarily) a local contributor interested in making pages and he does not oversee day to day per-page policy choices. Frankly, not even local admins are interested in making pages for you because they are making their own pages or running the wiki. There was a rule on old Qualitipedia about this that perhaps should be revived: if you want to see a page happen, start a draft in your userspace and make it happen and do not try and get other people to make pages for you. If you don't know how to make pages then you will need to learn. Look to existing pages for examples and get feedback before posting into the mainspace.

Notwithstanding this, constantly asking to be made an admin does not paint you in a good light; just because the minimum number of edits to be an administrator is 1500, does not mean that hitting this number instantly means you are eligible to be an admin. Constantly asking is actually probably reducing your likelihood of ever being an administrator on this wiki.
