22 Jump Street is a 2014 American buddy cop action comedy film directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, written by Jonah Hill, Michael Bacall, Oren Uziel, and Rodney Rothman, and produced by and starring Hill and Channing Tatum. Ice Cube, Peter Stormare, Jillian Bell, Amber Stevens, and Wyatt Russell also star. It is the sequel to the 2012 film 21 Jump Street, which is in turn based on the television series of the same name.

Plot

Although they made their way through high school successfully, an investigation at a local college brought big changes for undercover officers Jenko (Channing Tatum) and Schmidt (Jonah Hill). When Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art-major scene, both men begin to question their partnership. Not only do they have to crack the case, but now the two overgrown adolescents must learn how to behave like adults.

Why It's Still a Jumpy Street

  1. Like the 21 Jump Street ending stated, Jenko and Schmidt actually go to college.
  2. Great acting like the first film.
  3. Many of the original actors of the first film return such as Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Ice Cube, Rob Riggie, and Dave Franco.
  4. Great soundtrack composed by Mark Mothersbaugh, like the original film.
  5. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller's directing is amazing.
    • Fun fact: It was the first time that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller directed two movies one In a single year, in this case of The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street.
  6. Several hilarious dialogues such as:
    • "My Name is Jeff."
    • "Schmidt f**ked The Captain's daughter!"
  7. The pacing of this film is actually better than the first film.
  8. Despite the film being a sequel to the original and having similarities, they're different from each other.
  9. Mercedes Nillsen is the first-ever female villain in the franchise.
  10. Like the original, many of the action scenes are great.
  11. The ending is a great parody of how many franchises are as if the 21 Jump Street series grew this much to be a multibillion-dollar franchise and spawn games and merchandise.

Bad Qualities

  1. Mr. Walters having a relationship with Eric Molson while in prison, is rather strange for some.
    • In fact in the post-credits scene, it reveals that Mr. Walters actually had sex with Eric Molson. And Mr. Walter says; "I'm late." which suggests he got pregnant.
  2. Some elements of the movie are recycled from the first film:
    • Jenko gets shot in the arm, resulting in him being in a cast at the end of the film.
    • One of the characters secretly being the supplier all along in the middle of the film.
  3. While the ending of showing many sequels, as well as Ice Cube saying "You two sons of bitches, are going to medical school." is good, it feels like sequel baiting, as the film never got a sequel yet. In fact, the spinoff in development will be led by females instead of males, making this not true.
    • The CGI used for the Jump Street video game scene, looks rather mediocre looking for 2014 standards. As the game looks like a late PlayStation 2 game rather than one for future generations.
    • An error for the 39 Jump Street Electronic Game is spotted in the last few seconds of the ending flashing all of the sequels in a split second, in which it says "29 Jump Street Electronic Game" instead

Reception

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 84% based on 222 reviews, with an average rating of 7.00/10. The site's critical consensus reads, "Boasting even more of the bromantic chemistry between its stars -- and even more of the goofy, good-natured humor that made its predecessor so much fun – 22 Jump Street is the rare sequel that improves upon the original.". On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 71 out of 100, based on 46 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews". Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "A−" on an A+ to F scale, higher than the 'B' received by its predecessor.
