The 95th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), honored the best films released between March 1 and December 31, 2022, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 12, 2023. The ceremony was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for the third time.
Why It Became the Best
- It's an improvement over the last year‘s ceremony and the year before.
- It's a huge win for animation fans everywhere, as Guillermo Del Toro said to his acceptance speech that "animation is cinema."
- In fact, Dwayne Johnson, the same person who played Maui from Moana, said that animation comes from a Latin word meaning "a bestowing of life".
- Jimmy Kimmel did a decent job hosting.
- Lady Gaga's Hold My Hand and Rihanna's Lift Me Up performances are amazing.
- There were some well-deserved wins, such as:
- Everything Everywhere All At Once for Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best Editing
- Top Gun: Maverick for Best Sound
- Avatar: The Way of Water for Best Visual Effects
- Michelle Yeoh for Best Actress
- Brendan Fraser for Best Actor
- Ke Huy Quan for Best Supporting Actor
- Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio for Best Animated Feature
- All Quiet on the Western Front for Best International Film
- Naatu Naatu for Best Original Song
- It gives a huge karma for Halle Bailey for her statement about animation in the last ceremony by gaining 1 million dislikes on the official trailer from YouTube.
- Deepika Padukone presenting the official performance of Naatu Naatu shocked the world, and the performance was heavily praised for being faithful to the song.
- Overall, it's an amazing awards ceremony that commemorated it's 95th year.
- Michelle Yeoh's acceptance speech was amazing and inspiring.
Bad Qualities
- Angela Bassett and Stephanie Hsu was snubbed by Jamie Lee Curtis for Best Supporting Actress. Additionally, some people were unhappy with RRR being snubbed for Best Picture.
- Like last year they showed a trailer to the little Mermaid remake.
- Marcell the Shell With Shoes On is "stop motion" containing live action, but it isn't disqualified.
