Plot

Mandark's birth and origins as the child of hippies are revealed, which begins the rivalry with Dexter and the cause of his villainy.

Why It Shouldn't Be Named Sue

  1. First of all, this episode completely contradicts the continuity from the first 2 seasons:
    • In the first 2 seasons, Mandark first met Dexter back in "Dexter's Rival" at school, but this episode butchers that and apparently, he met Dexter near his house. Also, he already had a laboratory back before this season.
    • Mandark's real name is Susan here, when it was established that it was "Ivan Astronomonov" in the first 2 seasons.
    • In this episode, Mandark was raised by hippie parents - but his sister, Olga Astronomonov (who had a one-off appearance in "Dee Dee's Rival"), was never mentioned here.
    • Not only that, here it is revealed that the reason why Dexter and Mandark became enemies is all because of Dexter making fun of Mandark's feminine name and appearance, hence making Dexter come off as extremely unlikable. This is in stark contrast to the episode "Dexter's Rival" where Dexter and Mandark became enemies because of how Mandark proved to be far superior to Dexter.
  2. Speaking of which, Mandark's parents are just generic hippie stereotypes.
  3. At the very beginning of the episode, we see a rather inappropriate scene of Mandark's hippie parents Oceanbird and Windbear actually giving birth to baby Mandark while they're skinny-dipping in the lake....in a kids' show. WE KID YOU NOT.
  4. Mandark's laugh once again sounds forced, but not as overused as "A Mandark Cartoon".
  5. The way Mandark got his iconic look is very uncreative here - he puts a fruit bowl on his head and cuts his black hair to resemble a men's hair... Yes, really.
  6. The episode ended on a cliffhanger - as Mandark said he was going to build the biggest laboratory (again, botching up continuity), but his hippie parents tell him otherwise. Therefore, it ends on a cliffhanger with Mandark sitting with his parents.

The Only Redeeming Quality

  1. The animation and voice acting are still decent.
