"A Brown Thanksgiving" is the seventh episode of the first season of The Cleveland Show, which first aired on November 22, 2009 on Fox in the United States. It was watched by 6.32 million viewers that night.

Plot

Cleveland has his first Thanksgiving with his new family and his parents together.

Why It's A Terrible Thanksgiving

  1. Out of all the episodes from season 1, this is by far the worst as it is notorious for having the worst gross-out and toilet humor, thanks to the vomiting and Auntie Momma's farting.
  2. Similar to "Quagmire's Dad" from Family Guy this episode mocks transgender people by claiming it's the same thing as being gay.
  3. Auntie Momma (a Madea Expy and somewhat a spoof of the character) is an extremely annoying and disgusting character because she keeps saying that she's outrageous, emitting flatulence, and even worse, portraying her as just semi-stereotypical black Transwoman as part of a semi-recurring joke for both Terry Crews' crossdressing and Donna Tubbs' personality foil.
  4. Besides that character, they also introduced LeVar and Cookie, Cleveland's Parents. LeVar is notorious for being the absolute worst character on this show thanks to how abusive he is towards Cleveland and how much he cheats on his wife. Cookie is no better as she always insults Donna for no reason and seemingly acts like she is the best.
  5. Cleveland and LeVar vomiting in the episode is awful and serves as nothing more than filler.
  6. The ending isn't good as LeVar only decides to make Cookie happy because his son is forcing him to.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The animation, from the vomiting scenes, is still good like always and the voice acting is great.
  2. This episode is one of the rare times in Season 1 where Cleveland is in character. Rallo, Cleveland Junior, Donna, Federline, and Roberta are likable here.
  3. Despite LeVar's vomiting being awful, The scene was so funny when Cleveland tells his dad LeVar that Auntie Momma is a man and her real name is Kevin.

Reception

Despite scoring a 6.7 on IMDb, the episode received heavy backlash from critics and fans alike and is considered to be the worst episode of The Cleveland Show.[citation needed]

Controversy

"A Brown Thanksgiving" attracted notable controversy after its airing due to its unflattering portrayal of transgender character Auntie Momma, to which creator Seth MacFarlane responded: "It always distresses me when I hear that the gay community is upset with us because that's one group of people I hope would know we're on their side."
