A Kick-Ass Risky Business Party is the 1st episode of Season 3 and the 48th episode overall of The Goldbergs.

Plot

While Lainey's father, Bill, is out of town, she, Barry, and Erika are throwing a huge Risky Business-themed party, but Beverly makes Lainey a "temporary smother" due to the car crash and resulting in putting their party on hold. Meanwhile, Adam spends too much time on calling Dana, but Murray cancels his call plan for irritating the latter's life.

Why Isn't Risky

  1. This episode pays homage to Risky Business, but in a good way, and it happens in the main plot. These include:
    • The famous sock sliding scene
    • The scene where Lainey drives her Porsche, but ends up crashing because of Barry, causing it to land on the water.
    • The whole party scene.
    • Beverly's lines: "Tom Cruising the floor." and "Sometimes you just gotta say, what the F**K"
    • Barry's line: "Sweet Rebecca De Mornay it's happening!"
    • Beverly does the same scene as Barry's, but more aggressive, as she scares the guest away with her cringy dance moves.
  2. The characters (except Beverly until the third act) are likable in this episode.
  3. The subplot involving Adam calling Dana while she is in Seattle is also good, even though it contradicts the plot.
  4. The opening starts off with Barry attempting to the iconic Risky Business dance by sliding across the floor, in a hilarious way, but it is intercepted by Beverly, who tells him to stop "Tom Cruising" the floor.
  5. Barry calling Erika "Booger" while Lainey is driving the car, due to its small size, is funny.
  6. After the party scene, Erika and Beverly have a conversation about the latter joining the party, and she hugs her.
  7. Good Ending: Instead of Adam making a break-up letter for Dana, Murray wants him to keep his relationship by using the long-distance call below 10 minutes, causing the former to look over the Hailey's Comet to her.
  8. Overall, this started season 3 of The Goldbergs on a good note.

Qualities That Are Risky

  1. Beverly is unlikable to Barry, Erika, and Lainey due to the car crash, as well as causing the latter to become a smother for a while.
  2. The scene where Barry and Adam doing the video serve no purpose but to pad out the time in this episode.
  3. Missed Opportunity: Although minor, Adam should also cooperate with Barry to address problems from Beverly in order to join the party, alongside Erika, and Lainey.
    • Adam should have done some Risky Business moments too like Barry, but failed.
  4. The mid-credits scene is pointless, which is justifiable since Risky Business scenes are finished.

Trivia

  • Adam's voice was deeper than the first two seasons.
