"A Mom & Dad Cartoon"
We still can't believe they turned a Scrabble match into a boring filler cartoon.

Episode Number: 10b
Air Date: June 28, 2002

(produced in 2001)

Director: Chris Savino
Previous episode: Glove at First Sight
Next episode: Smells Like Victory

"A Mom & Dad Cartoon" is the second part of the tenth episode in the third season of Dexter's Laboratory.

Plot

Mom and Dad play a game of Scrabble while Dexter and Dee Dee listen in on their parents' conversation.

Why It Sucks

  1. Right off the gate, this is just a 3-minute filler episode with nothing interesting going on. The 2013 Mickey Mouse shorts can cram in interesting things in just that amount of time.
  2. Speaking of which, Mom and Dad argue until the end for no reason.
  3. Dexter and Dee Dee don't even bother asking them what's wrong nor do they help their parents as they play.
  4. Predictable ending where Dexter and Dee Dee try to convince their parents not to break up but they respond with "we can work things out" and "it's just a game". Dexter and Dee Dee nervously smiling does nothing to fix this problem.
  5. Overall, it feels like watching two people play a board game and argue, rather than an episode.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The animation and voice acting are still decent.
  2. Dexter and Dee Dee are both tolerable here.
