Abobo's Big Adventure is a Flash video game based of Nintendo Entertainment System games, putting Abobo from Double Dragon as the protagonist. The game's development started in 2002 and it didn't finish until 2012.
Plot
Abobo's son, Aboboy, was kidnapped, so he goes to rescue him.
Why It Is Abobomazing
- The best thing of the game is that it has a lot of references to NES games; every level is a different game, and they all have characters from many of them.
- Every level has a different gameplay style, making each of them unique and cool.
- Very fluid controls and mechanics.
- The game has 100 achievements you can get.
- As a result to this, the game is filled with challenges and secrets, giving it more replay value.
- You can use a different special "rage" attack in each level, which is good.
- The game can also be very funny.
- The name of every level is a pun with Abobo's name.
- Level 1: Double Drabobo
- Level 2: Super Mabobo
- Level 3: Urban Chabobo
- Level 4: Zeldabobo
- Level 5: Pro Wrabobo
- Level 6: Mega Mabobo
- Level 7: Contrabobo
- Level 8: Punch-Abobo
- Level 1 (Double Dragon) has a secret room that's a "private party."
- The map in level 4 (Zelda) has a "familiar shape."
- The laser gun in level 7 (Contra) now shoots Lemmings instead, because both start with the letter "L."
- The name of every level is a pun with Abobo's name.
- The game has a battle mode based on Double Dragon's battle mode.
- The game's website has a tutorial on how to play the game with an actual NES controller to have a classic experience.
- Amazing ending: Abobo decapitates Little Mac by punching his head, that then flies trhough multiple games, then, everyone cheers for Abobo and Aboboy, but, they then kill the public, then, Abobo appears sleeping in a scene based on Super Mario Bros. 2's ending.
- This ending is so great that it is mentioned in the game's description on NewGrounds.
Abobominable Qualities
- Missed opportunity: Battle mode has, as selectable characters, 4 Abobos in different colors. It could have been good if they were other characters like the bosses of the game.
- Level 2 goes at a weirdly slow framerate for some reason.
- Level 5 (Ballon Figther) is arguably the worst level of the game; it is really slow and long, so it just gets boring. Thankfully, you can skip it by pressing "1" to go to the bossfight (Pro Wrestling.)
- However, you need to play it in order to get its achievements, which includes one where you need to complete the level without getting hit once. While difficulty in a video game is not a bad thing, here, considering how long and slow the level is, it is frustrating to obtain.
