Action Girlz Racing is a racing game developed by Data Design Interactive and published by Metro 3D. It was released for the PC and PlayStation 2 in 2005 in Europe before being ported to the Wii in 2007. A PlayStation Portable version was planned but was canceled for unknown reasons.
Why It Didn't Take Action into Racing and Lost
- It's just another shallow rip-off of the Mario Kart series.
- Shallow, generic, and forgettable characters. There are no features or special characteristics about them and are practically the same.
- Latisha, the black girl, is very crass and stereotypical.
- Heck, one of them is just a poor trace of Sami from Advance Wars.
- Severe lack of tracks. Not only are they cramped and awkward, but they're also badly designed. For instance, one of the tracks has no sign to direct the players through the doors, causing them to make a wrong turn to the right and go the wrong way.
- The camera is too close to the player.
- With bad collision detection and physics, cars can literally flip over after hitting a wall.
- Unstable framerate.
- There's so many bug and glitches in this games.
- Unresponsive and overly sensitive controls.
- Poor sound effects.
- Awful graphics with blocky visual and their characters that look like a rejected Barbie or Bratz dolls.
- The cars move very slowly on beginner mode, making it very dull to sit through and play when laps normally take two minutes to complete.
- If you collide into the back of a car that has been hit with a "chatter shot", an immobilizing pickup, you stop to a halt as well.
- Annoying music
- Rubberband AI.
- There is such little content in this game that it was printed on a CD in 2005, when they could have distributed it as freeware since it's only 45 megabytes big. Mind you, 2005 was the same year in which Gran Turismo 4 was released in Europe.
- Very repetitive gameplay, leading to little to no replay value.
- The credits include unusual messages such as "Other Mom and Dad" and "Hi Jean".
- The back of the cover states that it's "the only racing game designed by Girls, for Girls!", which is complete false advertising as a man who also provided sound for No Man's Sky was credited for working on the audio production. The women's names in the credits, despite featuring men's names, are actually just female pseudonyms of the men who actually developed this game.
Reception
Action Girlz Racing was heavily panned by critics. IGN gave the game a 0.8 out of 10, making it the lowest-scoring game of Data Design Interactive's library.
The PlayStation 2 version is the second-lowest PS2 game of all time on gamefaqs.com whilst the Nintendo Wii version is the ninth-lowest Wii game of all time on the same site.
