Alan Wake II is a 2023 survival horror video game developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Epic Games Publishing. It is the sequel to Alan Wake.
Plot
The story follows best-selling novelist Alan Wake, who has been trapped in an alternate dimension for 13 years, as he attempts to escape by writing a horror story involving an FBI Special Agent named Saga Anderson.
Why It's A Champion
- Great graphics with a large amount of attention to detail.
- Incredible characters like Saga Anderson, Alan Wake himself, and of course, Mayor Settler.
- Despite the gameplay being heavily inspired from the Resident Evil games, several mechanics stand out from Resident Evil.
- For one, the flashlight mechanic allows both Saga and Alan to stun enemies and pop off critical hits.
- In keeping with Saga as a member of the FBI and Alan being a writer, they each have their own hubs in which they solve puzzles and clues.
- Unlike some Resident Evil games in which you must play through one character to unlock the other, you can play as both characters at the same time.
- Challenging yet rewarding gameplay.
- Excellent voice acting for both characters.
- Sam Lake once again retains his writing style for the dark yet bizarre storyline for this game.
- Manuscript pages can be found to upgrade your weapons.
- Epic soundtrack, especially Herald of Darkness.
- The DLCs, Night Springs and The Lake House are worth your money.
Bad Qualities
- The story can be confusing to newcomers.
- Because the gameplay is inspired by Resident Evil, don't expect doing melee attacks or roundhouse kicks to further stun your enemies.
Reception
Alan Wake 2 received "generally favorable" reviews from critics for the PC and PS5 versions, while the Xbox Series X version received "universal acclaim", according to review aggregator website Metacritic.
