Alpha and Omega: The Legend of the Saw Tooth Cave (simply known as The Legend of the Saw Tooth Cave) is a 2014 American computer-animated comedic-fantasy film, produced by Crest Animation and distributed by Lionsgate Films. It serves as the sequel to the 2014 film, Alpha and Omega 3: The Great Wolf Games and is the fourth installment in the Alpha and Omega franchise.

Plot

When Runt was going through Saw Tooth forest with his father and aunt, Runt unintentionally discovers a spirit that lies within it while also finding a lone female wolf. When Runt’s family learns more about it, they also learn of a certain pack that has some involvement with the spirit.

Why It's Not A Legend

  1. Kate and Humphrey are completely absent from the cover art, despite them being the “faces” of the franchise and their pups have way more screen time than them. They have been completely diminished in this movie, as Kate has been turned into an irresponsible and incapable mother while Humphrey has been treated more of a wimp and an undependable loser, even more than his potrayal in the first movie. It’s even worst when their pups constantly mouth off to them which their parents never discipline them in any way nor do they act like actual parents.
  2. Despite what they have accomplished in the previous movie such as breaking the society barrier, again in this movie, only alphas are able to be anything as long they have the alpha status and omegas are forced to be the under class of the pack and are forbidden to do anything that are only allowed for alphas.
  3. Lilly returns with no explanation on what happened to her or where she was on the previous movie but she still disappears sooner without any explanation nor her family mentioning her again. On another note, she acts out of character at times.
  4. The movie is aiming for a Halloween theme, but there isn’t anything that can be considered as “scary” nor Halloween related.
  5. A number of plot holes;
    • It’s never explained why did Humphrey called the nameless pack leader “King”, as the name has been given to the Rogue Wolf leader and that pack doesn’t appear at all.
    • It’s never explained how did Daria’s mother became the spirit wolf nor have any of the characters mention how it works.
    • Somehow, Daria is the same age as Kate, despite Daria still being a pup when Garth’s father was an adolescent at the time and adolescents can’t have any pups until they are fully grown and have the alpha status.
  6. Just as Nars from the previous movie, the movie’s “bad wolf” is still as forgettable as Nars since he only has a small amount of screen time and hardly accomplishes anything.
  7. Despite Daria being a fan favorite, she completely disappears after the movie and none of the characters (including Runt) never mention her again.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Despite it still being poorly made, the animation is quite decent compared to the other sequels, so at least is a bit improved.
  2. There are a few funny moments here-and-there.
  3. Lilly being shown did made the fans happy to she her character one last time.
  4. Daria and Lilly are the only likable characters in the movie, despite the former being wasted.
  5. Decent voice acting.
