"And Then There Were Fewer" is the first episode of the ninth season of animated adult television series, Family Guy. It is also one of the very few episodes to have an hour-long runtime.
Summary
Peter, his family and many other folks in Quahog get an invitation from James Woods who invites them to dinner to make amends with them only to be hunted down and killed off one by one by someone who’s one of the people at the dinner party.
Why It Rocks
- The episode manages to take the “Who did it?” clichéd mystery-murder plot and use it very well.
- A brief but decent cameo from James Woods.
- There are many funny moments throughout the episode, like when Peter convinces himself that Derek has held up the entire “Hollywood” sign.
- One of the very few episodes from Family Guy that happened after it’s downfall to actually turn out pretty good.
- The reveal of Diane Simmons being the killer, framing Tom and killing James Woods is a brilliant twist.
- Also, Diane’s motives for killing James Woods and ending up killing several others are awesome.
- The idea of the Griffin family being trapped in a large mansion with a bunch of other Quahog residents while a killer is in the house is very original.
- A satisfying ending as Stewie ends up shooting Diane before she can shoot Lois.
- Some of the characters behave like their former selves before they were flanderized.
- This episode was a perfect way to start Season 9, as it manages to get Family Guy fans to give Season 9 a chance, as there's some more good episodes after this one, like "Baby, You Knock Me Out", "Road to the North Pole", "New Kidney in Town", "The Big Bang Theory", and "It's a Trap!".
- The most staisfying and also must watch to sit through moment was where Stewie saved Lois' life by killing Diane Simmons with a sniper rifle was pure genius as Diane Simmons deserved to die for trying kill Lois, for killing everybody, for framing Tom Tucker for her actions and for killing people as well as this episode Diane Simmons' appearance very nicley and was replaced in the rest of this season with Joyce Kinney as this episode ended Lori Alan's voicing career on Family Guy very nicley as well.
Bad Qualities
- Stephanie, Quagmire's fat girlfriend is annoying.
- Brian being a pretentious douchebag by identifying celebrities with unnecessary nicknames like "Donny Johnny".
Reception
"And Then There Were Fewer" recieved a positive reception from viewers, fans, and critics. The episode was given a 8.6/10 rating on IMDb.
