Animal Well is a Metroidvania video game developed by Shared Memory and published by Bigmode. The player controls a blob and explores a labyrinth filled with animals. It released for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Nintendo Switch on May 9, 2024.

Why It's So Well

  1. First off, this is the first videogamedunkey game ever published.
  2. The gameplay is pretty different than other genre; it's Metroidvania, combined with relaxing atmosphere and puzzle makes feel comfortable.
  3. Nice graphics, and yes, because they're doing the 8-bit style, combined with nice atmosphere is pretty well done executed.
  4. Those of the Animal are well designed and feel good.
  5. Great puzzle design, in fact, this puzzle section is well challenging.
  6. Blob is not a combat, it uses a tool for this example:
    • Bubble to uses as platforming to cross long obstacle.
    • Yoyo to distract the Animal to complete certain puzzle.
    • Dynamite to detonate for some area to being exploded.
  7. The map are make good job too to help you that not getting lost.
  8. There's no music, but it feel good to hearing the atmosphere and fit perfectly.
  9. The ending, while kind of disappointing, it feel decent.

Bad Qualities

  1. The game is short, it takes 2 hours long to beat.
  2. Some puzzles is somewhat hard to complete.
  3. There's no tutorial, so some new players can be confused for the first time to playing this.
  4. The ending is kind of disappointing. The worst part is cat screaming sounds like kids screaming that can scary for some players and seizure that can blind your eyes if you look closely.
    • If it wasn't bad enough, look at the cat face, it looks scary for some players.
