Archer is an American adult animated sitcom created by Adam Reed for the basic cable network FX. It ran on FX from September 17, 2009 to June 2, 2016 before being moved to FXX and has aired on that channel since April 5, 2017.

Why These Seasons Are The Perfect Gentlemen

  1. The animation is good-looking and detailed which feels like a direct tribute to Frisky Dingo. as its art style looks like it's a hand-drawn comic, the character designs look great and original, the backgrounds look smooth and clean for their time, and with a good color palette.
  2. Memorable, likable, witty, and hilarious characters, such as Sterling Archer, Malory, Pam, Cheryl, and Lana Kane.
  3. Great voice acting, especially by H. Jon Benjamin (who also voiced Bob from Bob's Burgers).
  4. The humor is on-point and not afraid to test its boundaries, especially the ones about women and alcohol.
  5. It has a great amount of consistency. There are little to no filler episodes and almost every episode focuses on the plot while managing to make every episode story more different than the last.
  6. The show is fast but well-paced, as it allows the viewers to get to know the characters in each episode.
  7. Smart, unique, and funny dialogue.
  8. There are lots of amazing and well-choreographed action scenes.
  9. The music is great and catchy, especially the theme song.
  10. The season 12 finale gave a great sendoff to Malory's character as well as a nice tribute to her actress, Jessica Walter by writing her off in a nice way.
  11. "Archer: Into the Cold" was an awesome way to end the series.

Bad Qualities

  1. There are times when Malory can be unlikable.
  2. The name of the agency from seasons one to five, ISIS, is painfully controversial, even if it does stand for something else.
  3. The show went severely downhill in Seasons 8-10 because of the weak storyline of Archer falling into a coma, luckily it redeemed itself after these seasons.

Reception

Archer is considered to be one of the greatest adult animated shows. It currently sits at an 8.6/10 on IMDb, an 8.8/10 on tv.com and a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Trivia

  • Magazines that characters read are often references to later episodes or plotlines for upcoming episodes in the season
  • Every episode has the sound of ice cubes clinking on glass.
  • The real physical model for Ray Gillette is Lucky Yates, who is the voice actor for Dr. Krieger.
  • In most episodes, you can find Pam's (Amber Nash's) name in graffiti on the walls.
  • Cyril Figgis's alias "Chet Manley" is the name of the boy who drops four baby turtles into a sewer in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic.
  • Creator Adam Reed has admitted in interviews that the show isn't set in a realistic time period. The geopolitical Cold War situation doesn't align with the technology being used, or Woodhouse's (George Coe's) age.
