Army of Darkness, also known as Evil Dead III or The Medieval Dead, is an action adventure horror comedy film directed by Sam Raimi, and written by Sam Raimi and Ivan Raimi. It stars Bruce Campbell and Embeth Davidtz. It is the sequel to The Evil Dead (1981) and Evil Dead II (1987), and was later followed by the TV show Ash vs. The Evil Dead.

Why It Rocks

  1. Amazing acting.
  2. This film has two cuts. This was due to differences of opinion between the director, Sam Raimi, and the producer, Robert Tapert, regarding how it should end. The producer felt it should have a more triumphant conclusion, due to the change of tone of the film, and the director thought it should end with Ash getting screwed over, in order to follow tradition.  It's for that reason that two endings of the movie exist, and the viewer can choose whichever they prefer.
  3. Excellent cinematography.
  4. Incredible comedy. It's a different type of comedy from the first two movies, but still great. It's more along the line of slapstick comedy but still does well to make Ash suffer like longtime viewers would expect, especially if you watch Sam Raimi's cut of the movie.
  5. Great soundtrack.
  6. Fantastic characters. All of them, not just Ash, but every single one are interesting and serve to make the comedy even better.
  7. Awesome action.
  8. ''Hail to the king, baby!''

Bad Qualities

  1. While the film is great, a lot of people didn't like the higher focus on comedy and straying away from the horror and insanity that made the first two films so popular.

Reception

Army of Darkness has a 72% critic rating and a 87% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a 3.7/5 on Letterboxd, and a 7.6/10 on IMDb.
