Artful Dodgers is the 22nd episode of the 1st season of Teen Titans Go!.

Synopsis

The Robin, Cyborg, and Beast Boy confidently expect to win an upcoming dodge ball championship, even though the only thing they ever practice is their victory dance. Then they come up against an unbeatable dodge ball team – the H.I.V.E Five.

Why It Should Be Beaten by the H.I.V.E Five

  1. To get the elephant out of the room, the dodgeball plot feels out of place for a superhero show.
  2. Robin also does not allow Starfire and Raven to play, while they’re very valid reasons, it still comes off as sexist.
    • Also, the flashback of Raven “eating” the opposing team is very disturbing.
  3. The dodgeball song parody of the original Teen Titans theme song is incredibly insulting.
  4. Plot hole: Why are the H.I.V.E Five playing dodgeball to begin with? Even Raven points this out.
  5. Also, the other Titans not training and being lazy comes off as too arrogant because they feel they’re “too good to practice”.
  6. Bad Moral: Cheat to win.
  7. Half-Bad Ending: The Titans called the police in order to win against the H.I.V.E Five which comes off as cheating.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The dodgeball games are amusing.
  2. At least in the Justice League Next Top Idol Star Miniseries shows the H.I.V.E Five calling out the Titans for cheating, this episode is even referenced in the miniseries.
  3. Half-Good Ending: Despite coming off as cheating, the Titans actually won this time.
