Astro Bot is a 3D platform game developed by Team ASOBI and is a sequel to Astro's Playroom. The game was released on September 6, 2024.

Why It Goes Beyond The Playroom

  1. Once again, just like its predecessor, the graphics are nice and colorful.
  2. The gameplay is more like the prequel, but it has more depth and more level. There are over 50 worlds with 80 levels each. You can choose what world to your choose first, it's up to you.
    • With tons of the level, this game has tons of replay value.
  3. Just like previous games, the game has tons of easter eggs from past Playstation games, not only just the characters to be found, but you can play as that popular character, like in the Snow level, where you can play as Kratos from God of War.
    • You can collect the easter egg characters to your dual senses, and dual senses can be doing for some longer obstacles to get through.
  4. Tight and responsive controls.
  5. Challenging levels but manageable difficulty.
  6. Excellent level design.
  7. The boss design, once again is challenging, each bosses have different patterns to dodge and attack him in different strategies.
  8. Astro Bot now has power-up, such as example:
    • Astro can absorb the water, this water can be splashed to the enemies or create the platforms.
  9. There are also a ton of gadgets to choose from, for example, the Air Pump gadget, this gadget can pump up your enemies.
  10. Great soundtrack, it remixes from the first and second Astro Bot game's music with some third-party music from other games.
  11. The game uses the DualSenses controller incredibly well and is responsive.
  12. Tons of collectibles in the form of PlayStation references both old and new, plus third-party media such as Bandai Namco's Katamari and Capcom's Street Fighter.
  13. Overall, this game is a complete love letter to PlayStation as a whole, a celebration of the brand's 30th anniversary, and it's worth your every cent.
  14. This game is proof that Sony has to focus on single-player adventures rather than make risky ventures to live-service games such their own Concord, which went offline only two weeks after release.

Bad Qualities

  1. Some references are left out at launch, such as Final Fantasy VII.
  2. There's not much content at launch despite the US$60 price point.
    • Thankfully, new post-launch content is on the way (speedruns and new Special Bots) and will be available free-of-charge to all owners of the game.
  3. Some assets from previous Astro Bot games are reused.

Reception

The game received critical acclaim from critics and players. The game score is 94/100 on Metacritic and recommended by 99% on Opencritic.

In the United Kingdom, the game outsold Concord after just two days,[1] and its first week sales were 21% above that of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.[2]

In Japan, however, it underperformed in sales with only 12,672 units sold on its first week of availability, ranking second as it was outsold by Touhou Danmaku Kagura Phantasia Lost there.[3]
