Babysitter Blues is the twenty-second episode in season 1 of Dexter's Laboratory. In this episode, Dexter falls in love with his teenage babysitter and tries to find a way to love her.

Summary

Dexter has a crush on his teenage babysitter Lisa. When he finds out that she has a boyfriend, he sabotages their relationship and accelerates his age by ten years in an attempt to win her heart.

Why It's No Blues

  1. For starters, Dexter never needed a babysitter to take care of him in the first place as Dexter is shown to be able to take care of himself despite his age, besides, his older sister Dee Dee can always take care of him anytime when needed.
  2. Dexter's crush on Lisa, while cute, can also be disturbing since he's younger than her, about 8 years old and Lisa is a teenage girl, probably around 16 or 18, which technically gives off pedophilla implications.
  3. Plot Holes: Why are the parents leaving and where are they going?
    • When and how did Dexter already found out which new babysitter is coming?
  4. Dee Dee does nothing to help his brother on his secret date, she serves as a background filler and only mocks him.
  5. Dexter is out of character here as when he finds out Lisa already has a boyfriend named Jeff, he attempts to quickly try to sabotage their relationship by quickly going to his laboratory, setting up a call and pretending to be Lisa and breaks up with him.
    • He than calls Lisa pretending to be Jeff to tell him that he's in love with someone else, causing her to cry, that's just plain cruel.
  6. After that, when Dexter found out that Lisa would love him if he was 10 years older, he goes inside the machine to turn him 10 years older, but it makes him a lot uglier.
  7. The gross close-up of Dexter's zits, enough said.
  8. Lackluster Ending: After Lisa ran away from Dexter when he attempts to kiss her, her boyfriend Jeff comes to Dexter's house and punches him in the face.
  9. Overall, this episode feels pointless as Lisa never appeared again nor was she mentioned after this episode, Jeff also never appeared again after this episode, another exemples of wasted perfectly good characters trope.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The beginning scene where Dexter gets ready for his date is nice to look at.
  2. Some funny moments, such as Dee Dee answering Dexter's call about finding certain stuff when he first attempts to call Lisa.
  3. No, no, you got it wrong it's, uuh, Poker Night.
  4. Lisa is a likable character, even though she only appeared in this episode and never showed up again after that.
  5. Even though the ending is lackluster, Dexter got what he deserved for making Jeff and Lisa break up in the first place.
