Back to the Pilot is the fifth episode of the tenth season of Family Guy, and the 170th episode overall.
Plot
When Brian finds a tennis ball in the back yard, Stewie and Brian go traveling through time.
Why It Travels Back to the Pilot
- The idea of Stewie and Brian traveling back in time is a creative concept.
- The episode is very suspenseful.
- The episode has a lot of hilarious moments:
- The exchange between cyborg Joe and "Frogmire"
- The variations of Stewie and Brian.
- Stewie and Brian making fun of the old Family Guy design, and how the characters used to set up cutaways by standing extremely still.
- Stewie's "Japanese children's books"
- The episode is actually very creative in the way it portrays time travel, with Brian stopping 9/11 leading to a second American civil war and the entire east coast being turned into a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
- This episode also shows viewers what could have been coming if 9/11 didn't happen.
- The animation here is better than before and it adapts the art style of the pilot episode very well with the modern one.
- Even the CGI used for the wasteland and the apocalypse scene is amazing since it managed to get the “cheap” animation very well.
- Since there are not a lot of cutaways, the episode flows better.
Bad Qualities
- It does sort of mock the 9/11 attacks, like in one scene where Stewie and Brian have to go back in time and start 9/11 again in order to prevent the second civil war.
- The Kool Aid Man was unlikable in the episode, as he was rude to Brian and Stewie for something they did on accident.
Reception
The episode has received positive reception and currently has an 8.8 rating on IMDb.
