Backbreaker is an American football video game, developed by NaturalMotion, and released on June 1, 2010 in North America and on June 25, 2010 in Europe. It uses the Euphoria game engine, that determines animations dynamically rather than depending on canned animations.

Good Qualities

  1. The idea of making sports games with realistic physics engine is absolutely good idea.
  2. Great graphics, even for 2010s game standards.
  3. Nice animation, it feels realistic and thanks to Euphoria engine, it uses the ragdoll to feel realistic.
  4. Good control, even the control can be frustrating sometimes.
  5. There's so many modes in these game:
    • Tackle alley is considered a challenging mode, your objective is avoid the opponent player to the finish, it's absolutely fun to play.
    • Create-a-team mode, this mode is absolutely fun to create, you can create your team or stadium whatever your want.
    • Road to Backbreaker is absolutely like Face of the Franchise, but this mode is good, even this mode are lack of the cutscenes and story.
    • Season mode, this mode can create your league.
    • Arcade mode, which just like NFL Blitz, but limited to Playbook.
  6. Good AI reaction behavior.
  7. Playbook is really nice, just like NFL, but better.

Bad Qualities

  1. The controls can be frustrating, especially for passing. The passing controls are mapped to the right stick, instead of the base buttons.
    • The camera can be frustrating, you can't change to top-down, like Madden did, instead, the camera is always to the third-person view.
  2. The game lacks injuries. Which is strange since American Football is a dangerous sport in real life and the NFL has a history of a whole lot of injuries.
  3. The multiplayer is really bare-bones, combined with the frustrating camera it can be even harder to play on local play.
  4. The replay system is disappointing, it's very limited and you can't move freely the camera and player.

Reception

"You fucked it up!/You done fucked it up!"
This game was given a 5/10 by AngryJoe.

The game received mixed reviews, but positive reviews for audience, and it considered a better Football game than the modern Madden titles (In retrospect, this game was released before Madden fell off).
