Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge is a platform game developed by Rare and published by THQ for the Game Boy Advance as a spin-off game in the Banjo-Kazooie series.
Plot
2 months after Gruntilda's defeat, the fat ugly witch is still stuck behind a giant boulder that Klungo can't push away. Klungo builds a robot body for Grunty's spirit to possess. Robo Grunty kidnaps Kazooie and travels back in time attempting to prevent Banjo and Kazooie from ever meeting, thus undoing Grunty's initial defeat. Banjo follows Gruntilda to the past in order to rescue Kazooie and stop Robo Grunty from changing the outcome of the last game.
Why It Rocks
- Many locations to visit and collectibles to find.
- Catchy and cartoony soundtrack that very closely resembles the original game's despite the Game Boy Advance's sound chip limitations.
- Colorful graphics.
- There's a large Jinjo statue on every world that gives you hints on how to find Jiggies.
- Mumbo can now transform Banjo into any of the different forms once they are unlocked.
- The game is set in an isometric semi-3D world for exploration, but unlike most isometric games, it's not cumbersome to navigate and judge the distances of jumps.
- The gameplay represents the Nintendo 64 games quite accurately given the hardware.
Bad Qualities
- The game is extremely short with only five main worlds.
- Very easy difficulty.
- Not much in the way of boss variety. All you fight is Klungo and Mecha Grunty. The only bosses that are different are the robot pirates.
- Much like the Nintendo 64 games, some of the Jiggies are frustrating to find.
Reception
The game was met with positive reception by fans, which consider it as good as the first games for the N64.
The game currently holds an average score of 72.70% from GameRankings and 72 out of 100 from Metacritic.
