"Bart to the Future" is the seventeenth episode of Season 11 of The Simpsons. It aired in the United States on March 19, 2000.

Plot

While visiting an Indian casino with his family, Bart encounters an Indian who foretells his future. Bart learns that in the future he is a ne'er-do-well musician with Ralph Wiggum as a roommate. He goes to see Lisa borrow money, but Lisa has her problems, being the newly elected President of the United States and facing a tax crisis.

Bad Qualities

  1. The episode is a torture episode for Bart Simpson but in the future.
  2. In an earlier episode Bart had some potential in being an officer (although that was from some poorly designed test).
  3. Homer and Marge have no respect at all for their son as they tell him to buzz off when he is poor.
    • Not like he's a panhandler, he's their son and has been having problems.
  4. Another major problem with the episode is how Lisa is treated like royalty as if she's the queen of the world, while everyone treats Bart horribly.
  5. The idea that Lisa becomes the president of the United States is absolutely ridiculous; yeah, she's very smart and clever but that doesn't mean she's qualified to rule an entire country. It would've worked better if they just had Lisa as a respected professional, but it feels like they only added this plot point to make Bart look bad.
  6. Some of the characters feel off, like Ralph.

Good Qualities

  1. It does have a message that states that you should do something with your life.
  2. Lincoln's treasure is "found".
  3. The events of this episode are non canon since the show is still going on at over 30 seasons and Lisa is still 8 years old in the 2020’s meaning that she would be too young to be president
  4. The pun can be a pretty hilarious pun to some people, especially with the hilarious fact that the title is a reference to the 1985 film, Back to the Future.

Reception

  • As of the 2011 list, Bart to the Future is the 12th worst episode of the show according to NoHomers.
    • Despite this, this episode has a 7.1/10 rating on IMDB.

Trivia

  • This episode is one of those that gets called for predicting events, as in Trump's presidency.
    • The same is said over Kamala Harris's outfit is similar to Lisa's presidential outfit.
