BFDI's weakest point. Also not the best way to revive a 10-year on-hiatus season, but at least they tried.

Battle for Dream Island Again (often shortened to BFDIA) is an American animated reality TV viewer-voting web series created by Michael and Cary Huang, who are most known by their YouTube channel name, jacknjellify. The series is about a competition between inanimate, anthropomorphic objects. It went on hiatus for exactly 10 years, returning on September 1, 2023, 10 years after the originally planned release of BFDIA 6.

Premise

Taking place 10 years before its release date, BFDIA is still going strong with new character interactions, crazy challenges, and even a change in hosts.

Eliminated Qualities

  1. The main problem with BFDIA now is that it's trying to appeal to younger audiences. Several characters also suddenly have their personalities altered or changed entirely:
    • Ruby dropped almost all of the serious traits she had from the original series, replacing them with even more hyperactivity, similar to SpongeBob SquarePants in seasons 10-present.
    • Bomby's personality completely changes from a coward who doesn't talk much to being more confident and joyful, and he speaks in full dialogue, using his BFB-present voice actress, Satomi Hinatsu. Since the series takes place right after the original series, his sudden change in personality doesn't make the most sense, and nobody in-universe points it out.
    • Yellow Face went from a fun and exciting individual to a selfish, racist jerk who uses his products for his benefit and even treats Bomby differently because he is painted purple, which he hates the color Purple.
    • Ice Cube is perhaps at her absolute WORST in "Lots of Mud", as her prize is to remove Pin's face. Unsurprisingly, her video was massively disliked, though she was likely going to get voted out regardless.
  2. This season is incredibly cruel to Pin. If it wasn't bad enough she lost her limbs, she had her face taken away by Ice Cube and was shrunk down to an ordinary object size by Ruby. Safe to say, it's no wonder she hates this season.
  3. It caused a few plot holes to be created. For instance, the viewer's votes are a lot higher than the votes that BFB had, due to the show's increasing popularity. However, this could be dealt with considering Gelatin told Puffball Speaker Box to not inform the Announcer of the elimination(s).
  4. In the first revival episode "Well Rested", Needle says they are all permanent Yoyleland residents now due to the only recovery center being glued to the ground in Yoyleland. However, in "Meaty", they all suddenly go back to Goiky and stay there. They continue to use the recovery center glued down in Yoyleland from Goiky suddenly without any problem with its distance.
    • In "Meaty", a new recovery center atop the Eiffel Tower was revealed, even though it was previously made clear the only recovery center was glued down in Yoyleland. Same thing in "Lots of Mud", which reveals a Tennis Ball Recovery Center (although these could have possibly been installed later on).
  5. It also tries to squeeze in as many references to older episodes as possible to the point where it becomes overwhelming.
  6. Spongy is stated to have been eliminated four times as of BFB and Gelatin has never been voted out, leading to retcons as they have both been eliminated here. However, it also could be because Gelatin told Puffball Speaker Box not to inform the Announcer of the elimination, or because BFDIA is being continued unofficially in-universe.
  7. It continues to push old and small gags from the past and make them plot-relevant. For instance, the random instance where Ice Cube made an "ugly" face in "Get Digging" leads to a team from everyone left (except Fries) known as "Icy's Beautiful Face Devotion Institute" by simply doing that same face upside down, and it makes them act out-of-character and worship her "beautiful" face when all she is is upside down.
  8. The characters continuously state the obvious, at least far more than they did so in other seasons.
  9. The challenges can be quite predictable as to who goes up for elimination. If there's a whole team versus a 1 personal team, obviously the team of 1 is mostly going to win in BFDI (not always the case but it is here).
  10. Anachronism: Recommended characters such as Nintendo Switch are present when this show is supposed to take place 10 years before the episode's release date, so the Switch didn't release yet. They had many recommended characters to choose from, so it didn't particularly make sense why they'd pick characters from future time periods.
  11. Forced gross-out humor, such as Ruby drinking VX and Fries selling expired ice cream.
  12. Missed opportunity: In early BFDIA, the recommended characters were ranked in an almost competition-like sense. Even though there is an overflowing amount of RCs in BFDIA, the RCs they did choose could still be ranked, keeping it somewhat faithful and less abrupt.

Immune Qualities

  1. It's possible this show is meant to be bad to get viewers to understand why Pin said she hated this season in TPOT.
  2. The show was right in its first 5 episodes, despite having a terrible start. These episodes are also better in their ways other than the bad qualities mentioned.
  3. Some characters are still likeable and joyful, even the ones with changed personalities, like Bomby and Ruby.
    • Pencil has redeemed herself in this series and has gone back to her likeable personality in BFDI, except this time she fully accepts Book and Ice Cube into the alliance.
  4. The animation now starting to get better, thanks to many animators from BFB like WoopDoo.
  5. "Well Rested" is a good way to start a new season 2b.
    • Some episodes are still good despite the flaws listed above, namely "Taste the Sweetness", "Catch These Hands", "Intruder Alert" and "Insectophobe's Nightmare 4."
  6. Puffball Speaker Box returns to host a few episodes. Flower also hosts as well.
  7. It's somehow wonderful guest stars. It managed to get Thomas Ridgewell, the creator of ASDFMovie, to voice a character named Barbecue Sauce after he saw the 9th episode reference his "Everybody Do the flop" gag. Zach Kornfield, co-star of The Try Guys, also voice-acted in a few episodes. Both characters are decently likeable, especially Barbecue Sauce.
    • Even Kevin MacLeod, (the composer of thousands of royalty free tracks which were used throughout the series), appeared as an object-sona named Pan Flute.
  8. We can at least see what happened during BFDIA 6-IDFB.
    • Speaking of such, it’s nice to see BFDIA finally make a comeback 10 years after its hiatus, as well as see the old assets in a full season again since IDFB.
    • Furthermore, the show makes a comeback of IDFB highly likely after BFDIA concludes.
  9. The show has funny moments now and again, including some infamous Hell scenes created by CobyPal in a collaboration.

Reception

Despite the issues listed above, most of the newer episodes have a higher rating on IMDb than the older ones.
