Beavis and Butt-Head is the name of three video games of the same name based on MTV's animated series of the same name and follows the title characters Beavis and Butt-Head as they attempt to find their torn-up GWAR concert tickets. The Super Nintendo version was developed by Realtime Associates, the Game Gear version by NuFX, and the Sega Genesis version by Radical Entertainment. The Game Boy version was developed by Torus Games and revolved around the boys trying to join Todd's gang.

"This Sucks" Qualities

NOTE: This only applies to the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo versions.

Genesis

  1. Enemies instantly respawn only one screen away from where they died.
  2. It does not matter who dies; whether it's Beavis or Butt-Head, only one needs to die for a game over.
    • Only one life and no continues for that matter.
  3. Saving the game does not refill your health. If you were already low on health when you saved, your health will still below and you will have to pick up the items when you resume playing via password (James Rolfe encountered this flaw in his AVGN episode where he reviewed the games).
  4. To access the sick room at the hospital to refill your health, you need to eat a rotten burger next to a dumpster, which will slowly deplete your health through food poisoning. There are enemies and obstacles on the way to the sick room, so trying to get there before the burger kills you is a bit of a challenge when you are low on health.
  5. Both Beavis and Butt-Head are affected by the rotten burger regardless of who ate it.
  6. In the hospital level, Beavis and Butthead are chased down the hall by Billy Bob in a scene reminiscent of an episode of the show. This would normally be a good quality for re-enacting the show, but if Billy Bob catches you, it's an instant game over. You have to avoid first aid kits, otherwise, you will lose speed, and the show's duo being in the middle of the screen gives you little time to react.
  7. If you choose "Sucks" to exit a stage, you will lose all the items you collected in that stage.
  8. Even if you do see a ticket piece, you have to search for some things to be able to get it.
  9. The other character can get hit even if not controlled

SNES

  1. When you continue from a password after getting a game over, you will have no lives and only one/two hits of health (as AVGN encountered)
  2. The difficulty levels do nothing but changing the lives you start, making them a bit useless
  3. You can get softlocked when switching characters when getting hit at the same time

Cool Qualities

  1. The best weapon to use in the Genesis version is the toy machine gun.
  2. The voice acting, graphics (which fit for the show), and music are decent.
  3. The title screens bear a good resemblance to what they look like in the show, and they come with good renditions of the theme song.
  4. You can switch between Beavis and Butt-Head since they have separate health meters in the Genesis version.
  5. Good hit detection.
  6. The SNES version is more straightforward.
  7. Beavis and Butt-Head's running styles are funny.
  8. The graphics are decent and do a nice job of faithfully capturing the spirits of the show.
