Totally not Harry Potter, we swear!

Billy the Wizard: Rocket Broomstick Racing is a platforming racing video game originally released for the PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Windows in European territories, while the Wii version was released worldwide one year later.
Why It Should Be Casted a Killing Curse by Harry Potter
- First off, the game is an obvious rip-off of Harry Potter. Hell, the original name for it was literally called "Barry Hatter: The Sorcerer's Broomstick".
- Poor graphics that look more like they came from an old Dreamcast or Nintendo 64 game with ugly character models.
- Awful motion controls on the Wii version. It's almost impossible to move your character as instead of using the Wiimote to move or the analog stick you instead move the nunchuck itself, this leads you to go either absurdly slow and never move on or way too fast and miss all of the rings/hoops you need to go through.
- False advertising: The title name is a lie because despite the name of the game being Billy the Wizard, the main character isn't even named Billy. Instead, he's name Barry Hatter.
- There's only one map in the game. All the levels take place on a dirt lot with a school floating in the sky.
- The game modes are really repetitive. Every level feels the same, it's mostly just flying through rings and points. Where have we heard that before...?
- Creepy facial features on the characters.
- Terrible camera. The way it moves can give you motion sickness.
- You can easily break out of the map due to the terrible controls.
Redeeming Qualities
- Unlike most of Data Design's other PC, PS2, and Wii games, this one isn't a reskin of their other platforming games.
- The PS2 and Windows version have better controls.
Reception
"What were they thinking?"
|
The game was given a rating of 2/10 on IGN, citing its subpar menus, presentation, controls, and overall gameplay.
Trivia
- The game was originally titled Barry Hatter: The Sorcerer's Broomstick, but due to a lawsuit by Warner Bros., the name was changed to Billy the Wizard: Rocket Broomstick Racing.
