Blackened Sponge is the first half of episode 14 or 29th episode of season 5, and the first half of episode 94 of SpongeBob SquarePants.
Plot
After SpongeBob hurts his eye from the wrench, he lies to the citizens about his injury.
Blackened Qualities
- This episode premise makes no sense, as SpongeBob tells everyone about his black eye by making lies and shows that he cannot accept the truth well until the last minute with Jack M. Crazyfish.
- SpongeBob, while likable, is stupid to tell everyone where he gets his black eye. This makes questionable responses to everyone after lying about his situation.
- This episode is filled nothing more than SpongeBob punching bag and he making fake stories; here the list in order:
- SpongeBob starts his routine of opening his Crust toothpaste, yet he cannot open it, because it is too strong, so he uses a wrench to open the toothpaste, but the paste squirts, and the lid launches quickly until it drops on the floor. He refuses and instead leaves, but he slips on the lid of the toothpaste causing him to hurt his eye with a wrench.
- He let Gary leave because he lied about his black eye from the previous pointer.
- He also tells Patrick where he gets his black eye, but he lies about Jack M. Crazyfish being 60-feet tall and being strong.
- He tells Sandy about fantasy SpongeBob kicking Jack's hairpiece, causing him to cry while SpongeBob uses a mug and straw to drink, only to poke it in the eye.
- After he is late for 13 and a half minutes in the Krusty Krab, SpongeBob uses the cashier's microphone to hear his sayings to the incidentals about his lies once again. Still, this time he says nonsensical stuff like Jack tossing the giant bowling pin on his face and trips on the pile of staples while making cat-like reflexes. Even worse when he uses a feather duster to tickle Jack, the latter cries, but his tars land on his eye. All of these fantasies are considered painful to watch.
- After Jack M. Crazyfish arrives in the Krusty Krab, he tells him the real truth about where he gets the black eye, showing that he completely forgot to tell everyone, especially Sandy and Patrick, about this situation and that he is clueless.
- The scene where he tripped a tall Krabby Patty with 6 patties and extra mustard is mean-spirited and results in playing rock, paper, scissors because of this.
- Plot-Holes:
- Spongebob is having a hard time opening the Crust toothpaste, even though toothpaste caps are light enough to open.
- How does SpongeBob open his black-eyed lid, when in real-life, it should not?
- If he is late to the Krusty Krab, SpongeBob should have faced consequences with Mr. Krabs.
- He also steals the microphone from the cashier without asking Squidward's permission, just because he lies to everyone about what he has done to his black eye.
- Spongebob sustained injuries from the straw, staples, and a giant bowling pin, even though they can provide injuries.
- While the dream scene is okay, the scene where dream SpongeBob and Jack play rock, paper, scissors, with the latter cheating is mean-spirited.
- Bad Ending: During the rock, paper, scissors montage at the end, Jack cheats, despite SpongeBob winning, shouting "NO!" in the process.
- Overall, due to how boring it is, the episode's plot is pointless.
Keen Qualities
- To be fair, if SpongeBob tells the truth to everyone, they will laugh at him.
- Spongebob is still likable, despite being too stupid to tell the truth to the incidentals about how he got his black eye.
- When talking to the customers in the Krusty Krab, a dolphin chirp can be heard, which can be a bit hilarious.
- Jack M. Crazyfish, while mean-spirited to SpongeBob, is an intimidating villain.
- The title card is well-animated to look at.
Trivia

- He later returned on The Patrick Star Show as the sheet timer
