Bomberman, alternatively Dynablaster or Atomic Punk, is one of two arcade Bomberman games developed by Irem. It features a single and multiplayer mode. A sequel was created a year later called Bomberman World for the arcade.
Plot
In the year 2091, robot contests have gained popularity. Bomberman and King Bomber have become the best robot team in the world. One day, King Bomber turns and suddenly attacks mankind. Bomberman and his brother Bomberman 2 must confront King Bomber and defend the people."
Why It Rocks
- The graphics are really good for it's time, since the sprites work is simple but good and the graphics are really colorful, they also could look better than most Bomberman games released before this one, and it look even better than Bomberman World on Arcade.
- Solid controls.
- Fun gameplay as usual, as the game play faster than most Bomberman games released before, and this game could be just as fun as the Super Bomberman games, and even if it do some changes compared to the console games, Irem still done a good job with this and Bomberman World for making the game fun.
- The story is simple but not bad, especially for the time the game was released, it is also a huge improvement over the stories from the previous Bomberman games.
- The soundtrack is very catchy, well composed and sound great for a 1991 Arcade game, it help that this is both a Irem and Hudson Soft game, in which most of these had good soundtrack, and this is not an exception.
- Cool looking artworks, that look different from the other games (well, not too much) but still detailled and greatly designed, they also look colorful, such as the one in the Infobox.
- Awesome boss fights, most of them are pretty fun to fight and had fun paths to learn, this is also the second game in the franchise to had bosses (the first being Bomberman on PC-Engine released in 1990), but here they are a massive improvement over the ones from the first PC-Engine game.
- The difficulty is quite challenging, due to the fact that your upgrades doesn't stay when completing a stage and that they are gone for the next stage, but luckily, the game was designed with this in mind, so it's not a problem.
Bad Qualities
- The gameplay, while fun, can be repetitive since it is mostly the same thing, we grt that this is a classic Bomberman game but still...
- The game can be pretty hard to control on an emulator for phones.
- Sometime, the musics might not be fitting.
Trivia
- This is the first Bomberman game on Arcade, the second and last one (if we doesn't count Neo Bomberman and Panic Bomber, both on the Neo-Geo) was Bomberman World released in 1992.
