Boys vs. Girls is the 20th episode of the 2nd season of Teen Titans Go!.

Synopsis

The male and female Titans compete against each other to prove once and for all which gender is better-boys or girls?

Why It Sucks

  1. For starters, this episode is sexist as it uses the "boys/girls are better than girls/boys" stereotype both with a capital S and word by word. This also leads to some gender stereotypes on both ends!
  2. The episode opens with the Titans stating the common stereotypes of each gender; males are emotionless morons who are obsessed with cars, sports, and toilet humor and females cry every second of the day and are obsessed with looking pretty. That's one of the rudest things the boys ever said! The truth is, those stereotypes are long dead and not true. Yep, various media is now depicting males as being great fathers (e.g., being able to change diapers without vomiting, which was a common stereotype from the 1980s-early 2000s) and not being afraid to show emotion. (One example of this is, Marvel has pages and scenes in their media where the male characters cry during emotional scenes, e.g., in this Marvel comic, Jesse Alexander (Sam Alexander’s father) is crying because he’s so happy finally be a father. If the common male stereotypes were still around today, male characters crying would be nonexistent) This just shows how terrible this episode is.
    • Ironically, all the sexist things the boys states about girls turns out to be what the boys do instead, such as Beast Boy and Cyborg lazing around on the floor and then wailing like babies when Raven calls them out and then Robin obsessed with his looks, hence making them come off as massive hypocrites.
  3. The Titans act like 5 year old in this episode because they’re afraid of cooties in it, this is something more in line with what toddlers would do, not teens or anyone above that age.
  4. Beast Boy, Cyborg, and Robin act so immaturely and rude towards the girls throughout the episode, which is not a surprise. Even the three of them having a gag at the beginning where they burp repeatedly is gross and unfunny.
  5. The “competitions” that the Titans use to see which gender is superior is pointless because each gender can do the tasks as well as each other. Plus, they are using powers (even for a superhero) which is cheating.
  6. Beast Boy and Cyborg deciding to be females not because they just decide it, they don’t go and get sex change operations or act like the gender by cross-dressing and using more feminine-sounding names, they just say they're girls now. You can’t just choose your gender like this.
  7. The “Boys Rap” is annoying, has terrible beats and is just badly sung, the lyrics themselves are not better, as they are just one word repeated over and over, much like the infamous Waffles song from the earlier episode "Waffles".
  8. There's some "trying to be hip with the kids" slang, which is annoying. Plus, the song tries too hard to be cool, when it just fails miserably.
  9. Robin goes into full villain mode when Beast Boy and Cyborg hang out with the girls more often. He breaks into a prison to get a cootie serum.
  10. The scene where Robin infects everyone with cooties is stupid because cooties is not real and the Titans look like they’re just covered with purple goo, which is disgusting.
  11. The scene where the boys run away from the girls when they have "cooties" across Jump City is very idiotic.
  12. Bad moral/ending: The ending has the boys learning that girls are better than boys in every way, except at giving speeches, instead of both sexes being equal. Not only does that encourage sexism, but it also encourages others into believing they are superior to others.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. At least Raven and Starfire try to reason with their male teammates at the beginning of the episode, even though it failed massively.
  2. Like the other bad songs in the show, the "Boys Rap" is catchy.
  3. Despite the ending, at least Robin uses the Cootie Catcher to remove his cooties, and his teammates' cooties.
  4. There were some funny scenes such as Cyborg's face changing on his door whenever Robin cackles.
