Brian: Portrait of a Dog is the seventh and final episode in the very first season of the American animated television series Family Guy.
Plot
Brian takes the bully pulpit to argue for his rights after Peter enters him in a dog show.
Why It Rocks
- This is a great episode about how Brian should be treated fairly with society and that he’s not just an average dog.
- The cutaway with Brian singing and dancing was awesome.
- The dog show was entertaining and funny.
- While the fight between Brian and Peter was mean-spirited, it shows that Brian wants to be treated like a family member and not just a dog.
- The cutaway with Peter and Brian in old cartoon style was entertaining.
- Showed us how Peter meet Brian and how Peter let him join the family.
- The cat causing trouble to the Griffins was hilarious.
- The characters are still likable, as we can sympathize with Brian for going through a tough time, especially at the pound, and Peter, for eventually realizing that Brian is a part of the family first and a dog second.
- The heartwarming scene where Peter apologizes to Brian and tells everyone to give him a 2nd chance and forgive Brian for his actions, saying Brian wants to be treated equally in society, making Chris, Meg and Lois confess that they each committed at least 1 bad thing, showing not everyone is perfect.
- While Peter does bribe the court with $20 each, it was to free Brian, and that led to Brian’s freedom and the society now treats him better, much to the happiness of the Griffin family (and Stewie’s displeasure).
- A good ending where Brian is back home, and Lois head kisses him goodnight as she, Meg and Chris go to bed. Stewie now respects Brian as he gives him a bow, starting the eventual awesome bond between the two. Brian also does an adorable doggie lick on Peter.
- This was a great way to end the very first season.
Bad Qualities
- There are some mean spirited moments, such as the fight between Peter and Brian, and Stewie not even caring about Brian. Thankfully, Peter and Brian do make up and Stewie respects Brian in the end.
- Peter does bribe the court with $20 each, and while it was to free Brian, this actually doesn’t work in real life.
