Britney Ever After is a 2017 biographical drama television film based on the life of famous pop star, Britney Spears. The film premiered on Lifetime on February 18, 2017.

Why This "Biopic" Is Toxic

  1. The overall film was seen by many as just boring and dull and some saying it was a disgrace towards Britney Spears' life and legacy.
  2. The cast choices and overall acting were very badly done, with Spears herself being the main problem as she not only sounds, acts, and look nothing like the pop star, but Natasha Bassett did not have any proper acting, dancing, or singing experience before shooting for the film which further proved that her choice for playing Britney was awful.
  3. Numerous inaccuracies that could have been easily researched even if the film was supposed to have some dramatic moments, such as Britney Spears marrying one of her dancers in Las Vegas, which occurred in 2004 and not 2006 as the movie states.
  4. Spears herself did not give her blessing on this project, nor did she or her team want to have anything to do with the project which further makes this movie a disaster.
  5. The film was not even allowed to use Britney's music and so just mainly had her perform cover songs that the real Britney covered such as Joan Jett's "I Love Rock 'n Roll" and The Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", and barely talks about Spears' iconic songs or music videos except for "...Baby One More Time" which overall makes the film even more boring and lackluster.
  6. Even though the film was supposed to be about Spears' personal life including her mental breakdown in 2007-2008, it not only treats it more as a cheesy comedic drama, but also barely talks about it in full detail.
  7. The costume design was also very bland and were barely reminiscent of any iconic outfits or aesthetics any of the pop stars wore at the time.
  8. The film was way too long and stretched out, clocking in at two hours.
  9. The film also barely makes light of Britney's conservatorship and all the controversial details surrounding it, which was a very traumatic period in her life since its institution in 2007.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Some of the actors/actresses were passable at best.
  2. The cinematography is not terrible, but could have been better.
