Bubsy 2 is a platforming game developed and published by Accolade in 1994 for the Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy after the "success" of the first Bubsy game, Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind.
On November 2015, this game and the first game in the series, Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind were greenlit by Retroism for a PC compilation re-release titled Bubsy Two-Fur.
Plot
Oinker P. Hamm is sapping information from history with his "Amazatorium" and it's up to Bubsy, his niece and nephew, and his sidekick, Arnold the Armadillo, to stop Oinker.
Bad Qualities
Overall
- Most of the problems in the first game had been repeated in this game, including the falling damage which still kills Bubsy instantly even though he now has hit points.
- While Bubsy does have hit points, it's hard to replenish them and cheap deaths still occur.
- The Space levels, for some reason, have a Pirate icon in the level select.
- This is because there were going to be Pirate levels in the game, but those were cut from the final game. However, the Pirate level icon was not removed from the final game.
- Currency is rare in the Super Nintendo version.
- The Nerf gun has a limited range, so you have to be close to hitting the enemies. Their attacks on the other hand have unlimited range.
- You have to stand still when using the Nerf gun and because it's delayed, if you move, you will cancel the attack.
- The speed of the music changes based on how fast Bubsy's moving, making it sound annoying very quickly.
- Speaking of the music, the soundtrack itself is very mediocre, especially when compared to its predecessor.
- Dull minigames.
- The levels are all confusing maze-like in design and have no inspiration whatsoever.
- The frame rate is inconsistent on the Genesis, and just awful on the SNES.
- The Genesis version's death music has a painful beep in the background. Finally, a game that properly punishes you for dying.
Nintendo Game Boy version
- This is undoubtedly the absolute worst version of the game because it has extremely ear-bleeding music (which is nearly as horrendous as the Sonic 3D Blast 5's tone of broken-sounding music), incredibly washed-out pixelated graphics, having fewer stages than the other versions, and nonexistent backgrounds (the only exception being the boss fights).
- All of the bosses in this version are exactly the same, at least the 16-bit versions have 2 different types of bosses.
Good Qualities
Overall
- The game has a hub world, which is something a lot of 16-bit platformers don't have.
- The minigames, while dull, do add a nice bit of replay value.
- The Genesis version allows you to access the different floors of the game besides the East and West wings.
- There is a little more variety than in the first game.
- The graphics are passable and good, especially in the Sega Genesis version.
- The game as a whole is not as frustrating as its predecessor, due to the variety of items and extra hit points as your health meter has 3 by default.
- This corrected the problem from the first game where Bubsy gains an unnecessary amount of momentum.
Reception
It was a bit worse, but still Mixed to positive reviews like the first game.

Trivia
- There was going to be a port for the Game Gear, but for unknown reasons, it got cancelled.
- When Micheal Berlyn came back to accolade, he noticed the Bubsy dolls with Pencils stabbed into there heads and were hanged in Accolade's Headquarters for the Developers hatred for Bubsy.
