CNN (short for Cable News Network) is a news channel often bundled with cable packages. It launched on June 1, 1980, in Atlanta as the world's first 24-hour cable news network.
Why It Used To Be Facts First
- What made CNN well known at the time was that true to their status as the first all-news TV channel, they focused on relaying facts first rather than reflecting opinions.
- They focused on all newsworthy stories—even those not related to politics—such as the explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger, the rescue of Jessica McClure (better known as Baby Jessica), and the trial of O.J. Simpson.
- Originally, they maintained a neutral stance on the political spectrum when it came to reporting. Even when it came to decisive topics such as the impeachment of Bill Clinton (where other news networks either portrayed him as a pervert or a saint) they stuck to the middle ground.
- Superb graphical effects used from 1995 to 2001. This ident, for example, looks really sleek and awesome thanks to a vivid mix of warm and cool colors and generally smooth animation.
- Its logo is great: the vibrance of red combines with the three letters "C", "N", "N" to conjoin meticulously, plus the white line represents how to-the-point the television network is.
- Respectable anchors such as Anderson Cooper, Dana Bash, Jake Tapper, and Wolf Blitzer were all a part of CNN during this period and were all dedicated to journalism rather than editorializing the news.
- There was a strong lineup of programming at the time, each tackling different subjects informatively. Examples include Moneyline (its first original program), Evans & Novak, CNN Daybreak, CNN Newsroom, and CNN Tonight.
- Their various overseas variants via CNN International are just as good as their parent channel, remaining dedicated to news in around 212 countries and territories around the globe, whether it be London, England or Tokyo, Japan (the latter having a special variant dubbed CNN Japan).
- Their sports-oriented program, Sports Tonight, took the concept of sports news and made it an entertaining experience, especially with their "replay of the day".
- The success of CNN has served as an inspiration for other famed news networks at home, like ABC News Live, CBSN, MSNBC, and the Weather Channel, as well as many major outlets abroad, like BBC (World) News, Al Jazeera, France 24, Deutsche Welle, & Sky News (UK).
The Only Bad Quality
- The channel experienced a minor decline starting in 2001 when it became a mouthpiece for some biased news. However, the channel went downhill even more in 2015.
