Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified is a 2012 first-person shooter video game released only for the PlayStation Vita on November 13, 2012. It serves as an interquel between Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

Why It Should Be Declassified

  1. Really short campaign (lasts less than an hour) with missions constructed in a Spec Ops-esque (in terms of Spec Ops mode from Modern Warfare 2 and 3) way.
  2. Almost all of the assets are reused from Black Ops 1 and 2, some are just slightly changed. E.g. Nicaraguan Sandinistas and Contras are the same Cuban Tropas, with the only difference being that they wear balaclavas, and they also have no distinguishing differences between each other; Rogue Mujahideen in the mission Escort Service reuse the models of OpFor soldiers from Modern Warfare. The worst offender is Raul Menendez's father, Jose Luiz, who looks like a mustached young Raul with shorter hair, despite the fact that he had a much different and older appearance.
  3. Poor enemy AI. For instance, enemies tend to take cover behind explosive barrels.
  4. Awkward touch-based controls.
  5. Many, many glitches. The most common is enemies getting stuck in random locations.
  6. Small multiplayer maps make spawn trapping common. Nuketown (or "Nukehouse" in this game) is literally cut in half, leaving only the yellow house and area around it to play.
  7. Unreliable network mode.
  8. There is no Zombies mode which is disappointing .

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The cutscenes and in-game graphics look pretty good as far as handheld games go and are decent by Vita standards.
  2. Multiplayer can be enjoyable.

Reception

User reviews on Metacritic were mostly negative. While there are large amounts of positive reviews as well, the negative ones outnumber the rest. One negative review in particular said that the game is not worth buying "...at full price, anyway. If you are a die-hard CoD fan, it might be worth your while. For everyone else, wait on this, and certainly don't buy the system for it. It's a sub-par game, nothing more."
