Casper: Friends Around the World is an action-adventure video game based on the Harvey Comics cartoon character Casper The Friendly Ghost developed by Realtime Associates, Inc. and published by Sound-Souce Interactive, Inc. for the PlayStation, the game was originally released in 2000.

Why It Doesn't Go Around the World

  1. Releasing a PlayStation game in 2000, while understandable since most games are still released on this platform until 2002, is rather pointless, as the PlayStation 2 was already out by the time the game was even released, meaning that it should've just been released for that console instead, not helping that the graphics in this game look abysmal.
  2. Very polygonal and ugly-looking graphics, even for that of PS1 standards. Even games such as the original Grand Theft Auto and Crash Bandicoot look better than this. If the game had just been released for the PS2 instead then the graphics would probably be a lot better.
  3. Poor voice acting, with Casper himself sounding a lot like Jimmy Neutron for some reason. This is a recurring problem actually as his voice tends to change a lot depending on what show/movie/game he's in.
  4. Speaking of Casper, he tends to be quite annoying in this game, as he constantly spouts one-liners whenever the player collects anything, and sometimes spouts really corny-sounding jokes.
  5. The cutscenes are poorly made, as they have terrible lighting and mediocre animation, and the character's models are the same as their in-game ones, with no differences. The developers couldn't bother to make actual animated cutscenes? They are also way too blurry.
  6. The levels are far too linear, as most of the time you're just going from Point A to point B in a straight line while finding Casper's "friends".
  7. Clunky and unresponsive controls, with Casper walking really slowly. For some reason, you cannot move while jumping, making platforming harder than it already is.
  8. Much like Casper: Spirit Dimensions and Casper and the Ghostly Trio, despite Casper being a ghost, he can't even go through walls, and there's no sort of powerup that gives him this ability either.
  9. Lackluster boss battles. They are far too easy, as you can easily just spam projectiles at them in order to win. It's the same thing in Casper: Spirit Dimensions (despite that game being much harder) where in the final boss, you can just spam fireballs at Kibosh to defeat him easier.
  10. The game is very short. Can simply be beaten in less than an hour, even on the Hardest difficulty because even in the latter the game is still easy.

Redeeming Qualities That Do Go Around the World

  1. Decent soundtrack.
  2. It is at least still faithful to the Casper franchise.
