Chip Chilla is an American web animated series produced by The Daily Wire, Matchbox Hero, Pure Imagination Studios and Zigzag Studios for release on the Bentkey streaming service. It debuted on October 16, 2023.

Plot

Chip Chilla is a comedic, preschool series celebrating the day-to-day lessons of Chip and his homeschooling family of energetic Chinchillas.

Why It Ain't Chilla Time

  1. To get the obvious rodent out of the room (pun intended), it is a blatant ripoff of Bluey. Not just for its premise, but the art style, themes, and even morals were copied from said show.
  2. Many of the characters are boring and lack the charm they have from Bluey.
    • Chum Chum (not to be confused with Chum Chum from Fanboy & Chum Chum), is your typical bumbling dad character, similar to Homer Simpson and Daddy Pig.
    • Chinny is a generic mother.
    • Chip and Charla are flat and uninteresting kids when compared to Bluey and Bingo.
  3. The animation from Brazen Animation is quite flat, lazy, stiff, and uninspired, and again, is trying to imitate Bluey, but falls flat. And to add insult to injury, If you look at previous Chip Chilla designs from when the show was in production, they look less like Bluey and more well-animated.
  4. Chip himself lacks the charm and charisma of Bluey, and he also looks like a ripoff of Buster Bunny from Tiny Toon Adventures.
  5. Besides Bluey, it also somewhat steals some elements from other preschool shows such as Work It Out Wombats!.
  6. Despite the fact the characters are chinchillas, which are a species of rodents in South America, the characters act more like a suburban 1950s American family, akin to ones from The Fairly OddParents or The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius.
  7. The show even had the gall to include Matt Walsh, who was infamous for his transphobic comments, even saying that 16-year-old girls being impregnated is perfectly normal. When he was called out for it, he simply doubled down and called everyone who called him out "sick freaks".[citation needed]
  8. According to a report from an animator who worked on the show, the crew was forced to improvise with the small amount of assets they had, forcing them to create everything from the walk cycles, poses, and backgrounds from scratch. Higher-ups forced the crew into overtime and frequently changed how they wanted the show to look.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Despite being produced by the conservative outlet The Daily Wire, the show surprisingly has little-to-no racist, sexist, or homophobic content.
  2. The original designs of the characters, save for the fact Chip looks more like a Buster Bunny ripoff, are far superior to what we got.
  3. Despite sounding obnoxious most of the time, the voice actors did okay jobs voicing their respective characters.
  4. Unlike Bluey, the show takes liberties that do not make it a direct ripoff, such as the family having 3 children (with the third child being an infant) while the Heelers only have 2 children and the Chinchillas also have a pet while none of the characters have pets in Bluey. The titular pet just looks like Stitch from Lilo and Stitch with a ladybug shell.

Reception

The show received overwhelmingly negative reception due to its similarities to Bluey. It currently has a 4.0 rating on IMDb.
