Cities: Skylines II is a 2023 city-building game developed by Colossal Order and published by Paradox Interactive. The game is a sequel to 2015's Cities: Skylines and expands upon many of its simulation factors such as simulated city and population sizes with improved traffic AI and management schemes. It was released for Windows on October 24, 2023, and is targeted for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2024.
Bad Qualities
- First half, the sequel of Cities: Skylines is a major steps back and very downgraded, as it lacks of several features that can be lack of the charm to the original. It's also has several issues for this games.
- You can't edit the map and yes, it doesn't have the map editor anymore, the only to edit this is terraforming.
- It also doesn't have asset editor anymore, making the game is seriously lacking of the creativity.
- The graphics while nice and great quality for building and vehicle, the pedestrian face model when it's close-up is absolutely atrocious and creepy.
- There's so many bug and glitches that makes the game barely playable, stuff like clipping issues.
- Horrible performance even for higher PC, and if you're build the big city like this, the frame-rate is increasingly drops and worse is crashes at times.
- Traffic AI is much worse than the previous game as it constantly to the straight than turning, making the trafficking worse.
- The game is lack of mod support at release, so you can't download the mods.
- The night time is more darker than previously making hard to see and seemingly pointless.
- For some reason, the outcome is increasing even you really want to increasing the income the RCI demand.
- When it turn on the winter season, the building is now doesn't covered by snow unlike the previous game.
Good Qualities
- As mentioned above, the graphics is really great and nice even the face model are ugly to look at.
- Tram, pedestrian road, taxi, etc. which previous game asset as DLC, now has been added in the sequel at the base game.
- The game is a little bit better with patches.
- The new upgradeable system is interesting on this game, you can upgrade the building by rank up your level.
- Unlockable system is here, with new skill tree type thing, you can choose to what you want to unlock.
- The map is much bigger, it's 5 times than the previous game. Now has 49 tiles due to the large map size.
- You can now create your elevated road and interchange without modding.
- After this new patch update, the modding features now has been included, but for download and upload the mods, you must go to the Paradox mods and not Steam Workshop.
Reception
At release, the game received mixed reviews both audiences and critics and most strategy/non-gamer considered a steps back from the predecessor. Criticized for lack of content, performance issues and rampant of bug and glitches. The game received score at 73/100 on Metacritic.
