Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force is a 2008 point-and-click adventure game released for the Nintendo DS and is based on the now-discontinued MMO game Club Penguin. It was developed by 1st Playable Productions and published by Disney Interactive Studios.

Why Elite Penguin Force Will Take Action

  1. For the first time ever, Club Penguin makes it's first fully-fledged appearance on video game consoles, specifically a handheld one, and surprisingly, it manages to do a decent job with implementing point-and-click gameplay onto the Nintendo DS touch screen using the stylus.
  2. As usual, just like the online missions, the game revolves around you having to solve quite difficult and challenging, yet also fun missions, and all 13 of them are original.
  3. It introduces new, exclusive missions, and even some of the minigames are original, (while the others are just ports of a few of the minigames from the online game) such as Snowboarding, Snow Trekker, and Dance Challenge, despite the latter being kind of similar to the Dance-Off minigame from the online game.
    • Snowboarding: Trace lines on the screen in order to gain points.
    • Snow Trekker: You drive a Snow Trekker (hence its name) in order to try and reach a target, whilst collecting coins. The trekker can also turn into a boat and drive on water, requiring you to blow the microphone in order to do so. In other modes, the trekker can also become a snow plower, allowing it to destroy obstacles in its path.
    • Dance Challenge: Although it's similar to the Dance Off! minigame from the online game, however, instead of pressing arrow keys, you must copy the actions of what a pink penguin on the left does, and failing to do so causes you to lose a life, losing all of your lives causes you to lose the minigame.
  4. Similar to some other licensed video games, it manages to do a decent/good job at being faithful to the original source material, with many neat cameos and references, and it even includes some of the soundtrack from the online game.
  5. It still retains the same lighthearted charm and tone that the Club Penguin franchise is known for.
  6. You can even waddle around the island for fun and go wherever you want in order to do things such as talking to NPCs or playing secret minigames.
  7. The 2D pixelated graphics are decent, despite looking compressed, but then again, it's obviously due to the hardware limitations of the DS.
  8. Great and catchy soundtrack, such as the Gadget Room theme, which is surprisingly a banger to listen to.
  9. Just like the online game, you can purchase clothing/accessories for your penguin from the Gift Shop and wear them in-game.
  10. Before Nintendo WFC shut down, you could transfer coins/items to your Club Penguin account, however, due to the online game also shutting down, it is no longer possible.
  11. Introduces a new character to the franchise, the Ultimate Proto-Bot 10000, who serves as the main antagonist of the game, while Herbert and Klutzy (the two main antagonists of the online game) serve as major antagonists.
  12. It managed to spawn two successors, Herbert's Revenge and Game Day!, despite the former being very average.
  13. On holidays such as Halloween, the appearance of the island would change in order to resemble the respective holiday, allowing you to play secret minigames.
  14. Once you complete the game, you would unlock a code that allows you into the EPF secret area of the online game, before the EPF fully replaced the PSA. However, due to the game shutting down as mentioned above, the code is now useless.

Bad Qualities

  1. Ever since the shutdown of Nintendo WFC in 2014, it is no longer possible to transfer coins/items to your Club Penguin account.
  2. While they can be fun, the missions can get very difficult to solve/complete at times.
  3. The game is pretty short, as it can be beaten in less than 3 hours.

Reception

The game received mixed-to-positive reviews on Metacritic[1] via 3 critic reviews, and a user score of 8.2 indicating "generally favorable reviews" based on 49 ratings.
