Cops (stylized as COPS) is an American television documentary reality legal programming television series that followed city police officers and sheriff's deputies, sometimes backed up by state police or other state agencies, during patrol, calls for service, and other police activities including prostitution and narcotic stings, and occasionally the serving of search/arrest warrants at criminal residences. It is produced by Langley Productions. It premiered on the Fox network on March 11, 1989, then moved to Spike TV/Paramount Network in 2013 until around 2020 in response to George Floyd protests following his murder while in the custody of the Minneapolis Police Department.
Why It Rocks
- The idea of making a show about police officers arresting various people is creative, as well as depicting the officer's point of view.
- The show can get amazingly humorous at times, especially when the officers yell at the suspects to stop resisting, or put them down on the ground.
- Catchy theme song.
- Amazing cinematography as it really feels like a genuine recording of what people would do in when they arrest the suspects.
- Overall, it's one of the first reality shows, if not the best reality shows of all time, that started it all!
Bad Qualities
- Sometimes the injuries on the suspects can be disturbing at times.
- Overuse of product placement.
- It was one of the shows that caused G4 to decline and then shut down in 2014 by airing 24/7 marathons of reruns during the final few years of the channel's original run.
Trivia
A year later after Paramount removed this show from circulation, reruns came back to Reelz.
