Crazy Frog Racer 2 (known as Crazy Frog Arcade Racer in North America) is a 2006 racing game developed by Neko Entertainment and published by Turtle Games in Europe, and Valcon Games in North America. It is the sequel to Crazy Frog Racer, which was never released in North America. Unlike its prequel, the game wasn't released outside of PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Windows. The game features two mini-games such as Crazy Frog Pinball and Crazy Dance.
Why It's The Annoying Thing
- Uninspired gameplay.
- Just like its prequel, it's an obvious rip-off of Mario Kart.
- Loading times on par with Sonic '06.
- This game uses the same models from its prequel, proving the developers were lazy to make new ones.
- Despite reusing models, the graphics are somehow worse than its prequel.
- All tracks in game are recycled from the previous game which is unacceptable for a sequel game.
- Poor and loose controls which make it difficult to stay on the track and complete the race.
- Items are virtually useless due to the items being difficult or impossible to aim, including a nuke bomb. The booster launches you to a too fast speed which makes it much easier to go off the course.
- There are coins littered around the tracks in the game but they have no apparent function.
- There is a glitch in one of the tracks where you can fall through the track terrain by bumping into the start of a fence.
- There is falling damage in a racing game, which seems to slow you down if you take damage.
- There is a character literally named "Drone" who is incredibly large which makes it impossible to drive and stay on the track.
- The racer icons on the mini-map are misaligned and do not properly represent where the racers are in relation to the track as represented by the mini-map. If you're on the track road the mini-map is likely to report you as being off the track. This makes it a convoluted task to try and find where you are in relation to the track.
- The Ice Cup tracks are the worst in the game. There's a lot of tight corridors which can't be properly navigated with the bad controls. There's a section of the track where you have to make five 180 degree turns in a row in the darkness, which when combined with the bad controls and broken mini-map is likely to cause you to hit a few walls along the way and cause you to slow down.
- There are mini-games which are bad too. One of them is a Dance Dance Revolution clone that is poorly-made and generic, and a second one titled "pinball" in-game but isn't actually pinball due to having completely different mechanics.
- No online multiplayer, even on the PC version.
- Annoying music, which makes sense since Crazy Frog was initially titled "The Annoying Thing", but this is still not a good thing.
- The back of the box art case in the US version misspells popular as "popluar".
- Weird Emulation quirks when playing on PCSX2 (possibly an older version of the Emulator), as seen in the video below.
The Only Redeeming Quality
- The city tracks are decent, as the track is really wide and there are a few cool moments like some corridors where you can kinda go on the walls. Also you get to listen to the famous Crazy Frog Axel F track on those tracks.
Reception
Crazy Frog Racer 2 received negative reviews. On Metacritic, the PlayStation 2 version has a 29/100 score based on five reviews.
