Crazy as a Lunatone is the 87th episode of Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire, and the 361st episode of the Pokémon anime. It was first broadcast in Japan on July 29, 2004 and in the United States on August 20, 2005.
Summary
When the residents of a remote town begin behaving strangely, Ash and friends set out in search of a crashed meteorite and a mysterious Lunatone; Team Rocket and an odd band of conspiracy theorists converge on the same spot.
Why It's Crazy Awful
- This is the first worst episode of the anime that is actually canon, which makes it even worse than your basic bad filler.
- NONE of the characters are likable here:
- Nurse Joy isn’t any better since she was controlled and she couldn’t do anything about it.
- Team Rocket isn't funny at all, and only cause disaster for everyone around them.
- Ken and Mary of the Pokémon Mystery Club from "Wish Upon a Star Shape", are still very unlikable characters.
- Speaking of which, bringing back Ken and Mary was one of the worst ideas the anime could have ever thought of.
- This is a Pokémon torture episode for poor Lunatone, as it’s attacked right away by Ken and Mary after crashing on Earth, so it had to use all the power it had to escape from them, and used it on others, so they could protect it until it healed.
- The plot about a Pokémon from outer space needing help was not a good one, especially from a Lunatone.
- Brock accused the Nurse Joy the gang meet as a phony, when in reality she was just hypnotized by the Lunatone.
- The comedy falls flat in this episode, with many unfunny moments, like Team Rocket’s lame jokes.
- Many boring parts, like the gang eating and walking, as well as their carriage disguise for Lunatone.
- Many annoying parts in the episode, like Team Rocket and the PMC’s bickering.
- The battling parts are not fun at all and very uninteresting.
- Predictable ending where the bad guys lose and Lunatone goes home freely after recovering.
The Only Redeeming Quality
- The animation and voice acting are still good as usual.
