Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles is a 2001 Australian-American comedy film. It is the third and final chapter in the Crocodile Dundee films and is considered by most fans of the preceding films to be the weakest film in the series. The film stars Paul Hogan as the title character and Linda Kozlowski as Sue Charlton.

Plot

Michael Dundee decides to wrestle with crocodiles instead of hunting them since the law in Australia forbids crocodile hunting. Meanwhile, back in the U.S., Sue's father offers her a job in Los Angeles as a bureau chief for the newspaper.

Bad Qualities

1. The story is extremely weak and ignores most of the events that occurred in the first two films.
2. Even though Mick is familiar with big cities, especially New York (which was in the first two films) life in the City of Angels is a whole lot different than New York City as well as Queensland, especially since Los Angeles is the second largest city in the United States.
3. The film doesn't really follow up with the first two films.
4. Weak supporting characters.
5. The acting is a bit awkward.
6. Someone dies in the film. Thankfully, we don't see the person die.
7. Some moments aren't as amusing as the moments shown in the first two films.
8. Pointless cameo from boxer Mike Tyson.
9. The film is slow paced in certain scenes.
10. While the first film was PG-13, this and part two are both rated PG.
11. Some of the dialogue is poorly written and nonsensical.
12. Certain jokes in the film aren't really that funny.
13. The film was released thirteen years after the second film, so the idea for this film was basically stale by the time it was released.
14. There's so much of Product placement, such as Wendy's.

Good Qualities

1. Mick is a still a likable and amusing character.
2. Mick has a child of his own named Mikey and is a pretty good father.
3. Some of the household items are pretty awesome like a hot-tub remote as well as a light that turns on and off when someone claps their hands once.
4. Mick battles villains again.
5. Mick and Sue get married.
6. The idea of this film taking place in a different big city was an interesting idea.
7. The film has an interesting mix of mystery.
8. Some amusing moments like when Mick orders some food from Wendy's, he calls the person who's taking his order on the speaker "Wendy", when he tries to turn on a TV with a remote while sitting in the hot tub and when he presses a button, the remote activates the hot tub he's sitting in and when he almost smacks a fly near a lamp, it turns on by itself.
9. In one scene, Mick goes back to Australia, which is a nod to the first film.
10. Although most of the film wasn't good, it was a decent way to end the series.
11. Some of Mick's friends from the first film return (except for Walter since John Meillon died in 1989).
12. Paul's performance as the title character is pretty good, but not nearly as good as he was in the first two films.
13. It isn't a rehash of the first two films.

Reception

The film currently holds an 11% "rotten" rating on Rotten Tomatoes with an average of 3.6 out of 10 and a critic consensus that reads, "A family movie without toilet jokes, but there's nothing that haven't seen before." Roger Ebert of The Chicago Sun-Times gave the film a 2 out of 4 stars and remarked "I've seen audits that were more thrilling."

Box Office

Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles opened at #4 on its opening weekend grossing $7,714,362. On its closing weekend, the film grossed $25,635,682 domestically. In overseas markets, it made $13,802,992. Overall, it grossed $39,438,674 worldwide against its $21 million budget making it somewhat of a box office disappointment.

Awards and nominations

Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles was nominated a Razzie Award for Worst Remake or Sequel, but lost to the Planet of the Apes remake. The film managed however to win a Stinkers Bad Movie Awards for Worst Sequel.

Trivia

• Paul Hogan wrote this after he took a trip to the Czech Republic in 1993.
• One early idea for the third Crocodile Dundee movie was to have Mick Dundee team up with Axel Foley from the Beverly Hills Cop movies in a crossover film.
