"Cupid and the Cat" is the second episode in the first season of Fraidy Cat.

Plot

Fraidy meets a cat named Chuck who crushes a car into a toy-sized version of it, causing Fraidy to run into a park where a dog is chasing a girl named Lulu. Fraidy saves her, and she calls him a “hero”. Cupid comes along and makes the two fall in love, but Chuck comes in to stop it, and Fraidy has to stand up for himself and Lulu. Eventually, Lulu breaks up with Fraidy and goes for Chuck instead.

Why It Will Crush Your Heart

  1. Fraidy doesn’t get any sympathy in this episode at all. Hell, he doesn’t even get anything other than a “you’re a hero” from Lulu.
  2. Chuck himself is a big asshole, and somehow HE gets the girl and not the well-meaning Fraidy who literally 'saved her from being mauled up by a dog.'
  3. As usual, the animation is cheap, but it shows in this episode a lot. Lulu’s pose doesn’t change at all, other than a scene where Fraidy grows into a giant by Kitty Wizard’s wand.
  4. Where did Hep Cat get the bones in the beginning of the episode? Did they just magically appear?! Did they take out his femurs?!
  5. Lulu straight-up dumps Fraidy because of his ghosts and that “he’s a showoff”. Where in this episode was he a showoff? Besides, she just jumped to conclusions and said he was a showoff, despite the fact that earlier in the episode she showed sympathy for him.
  6. Fraidy gets turned into a mouse by Kitty Wizard’s wand, and Chuck plans to eat him. Not only would that be kinda dark, that would also kinda be cannibalistic because the mouse is 'still' Fraidy.
  7. Lulu’s voice is VERY ugly-sounding, as it sounds like a drag queen.

The Only Redeeming Quality

  1. As usual, Fraidy Cat himself is still likable here.

Trivia

  • Lulu was voiced by Lou Schiemer’s wife, Jay Schiemer.
