Daigunder (ēé宣čØćć¤ć¬ć³ćć¼, BakutÅ Sengen DaigandÄ) is a Japanese anime television series about humans using robots in tournaments. Created by Nihon Ad Systems and Takara and animated by Brain's Base, the studioās first television production, the series aired on TV Tokyo and its affiliates from April to December 2002.
Synopsis
Set in a futuristic time where talking robots are common, there is a tournament where robot teams pit off against each other in. The Battle Robots look like humans and transforming animals.
A boy named Akira Akebono plans to win the Titan Belt with his robots Bulion, Eaglearrow, Drimog, Bonerex, Despector, Trihorn, Ryugu and also Daigu who form the mighty Daigunder. The Daigunder unit was a creation of Akira's grandfather Professor Hajime Akebono. Managed by a girl named Haruka Hoshi, Team Akira enters many tournaments for Akira to reach his goal. However, there are many occasions when a Battle Robot named Ginzan is out to destroy Daigunder. Ginzan does this under the orders of the evil and mysterious Professor Maelstrom and he is later joined by Tigamaru and Rogamaru. Akira and his friends soon find a new ally in DragonBurst and new comrades in his assistants DragonFlame and DragonFreezer.
Why It Rocks
- For starters, the concept of Pokemon with Robot is interesting.
- Great animation, all thanks to Brain-Base, who was producing this show and it's first studio who working this shows.
- Great looking robot designs, despite the Ryugu was similar to Gundam.
- Best of all, you can see that the Daigunder robot can be combined both good and evil. And DragonBurst is considered the most evil in this series, as DragonBurst is take control with Ryugu and some Daigunder robots.
- Good action fight scene, although some scene can be reused in some episodes and their fight scene can be repetitive.
- Some funny, scary, or heartwarming moments are here and there.
- Big Bang, is considered at least good villains in the shows. He's one of responsible for annoying the battle in some episodes.
- Good voice acting, both Japan, Indonesia and even English.
- Great soundtrack, especially the memorable the Daigunder songs.
- The final battle, while it's a bit rushed, is considered the best final fight scenes.
Bad Qualities
- Some people is considered a rip-offs of Gundam and PĆ³kemon due to similarities.
- The fight scenes can be repetitive, though some fight scene can be varied.
- Some animation can be look stiff and awkward.
- The final battle is a little bit underwhelming.
Reception
Although no one people who watching Daigunder, this anime was a cult-following due to unique concept and great theme song. Even this show is popular in Indonesia due to this concept and particularly the theme song.
The show was positive reviews by Critics and Fans, especially for Spacetoon or some Jetix fans who watching this show in the 2000s.
